She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 585

Victoria took a sharp breath, deliberately pivoting the conversation. "Caspian says he's turned over a new leaf. He promised he'd never cross Jasmine again, and since you're getting married, he wants to fly back to attend his cousin's wedding."

"Absolutely not," Rowan replied coldly, leaving zero room for negotiation.

He looked his mother dead in the eye. "Mom, I need you to handle Jasmine for me. Tell her it's over. I'm swapping out the bride on Sunday."

Victoria's expression morphed from shock to fury. "You want to marry Lyra? Over my dead body!"

"Jasmine literally took a bullet for you. You owe it to her to treat her well. And that Lyra girl? I haven't seen a single shred of genuine affection from her. Yet here you are, secretly handing over the entire entertainment division to your aunt just to protect her? You and your father kept that completely hidden from me!"

Rowan remained unfazed. "Grandma always intended to leave the entertainment company to Aunt Vivienne. Grandpa only had me manage it temporarily because Aunt Vivienne was struggling with it. I don't have the time or energy to run it long-term anyway; I've got construction projects requiring my full attention. And as for Jasmine—I saw Lena Wynter's ex-boyfriend pull the gun long before he fired. I would have dodged it perfectly fine even if Jasmine hadn't thrown herself at me."

Victoria scowled fiercely. "Rowan, you can't just dismiss it like that."

"Let me be brutally honest. Lyra is completely wrong for you. The only reason this was ever a thing is because your grandfather shoved it down our throats. She's far too young. There's a five-year age gap between you two—the generational divide is massive. That's exactly why you never liked her in the first place! You thought she was immature and flighty. You need a woman who is poised and level-headed, not some wild girl who only knows how to play games."

Rowan let the words wash over him, utterly unmoved.

"A five-year gap doesn't mean anything. The only reason I kept my distance in the past was because I thought she was only chasing me for Fairchild Holdings' benefit. I didn't think she was genuine."

Just then, Rowan's phone buzzed on the table. He paused, a rare tension tightening the line of his jaw. He stepped slightly away to answer it, his voice dropping low. "What did you find out?"

Victoria watched him, instantly suspicious. She could see his knuckles turning white. There were very, very few things in this world capable of making her son nervous.

"Boss," Wesley's voice came through the receiver, frantic and breathless with suppressed excitement. "It's confirmed. Miss Fairchild did not terminate the pregnancy."

Rowan's mind went entirely blank for a split second before a sudden, booming laugh tore from his throat. He was laughing uncontrollably, yet the corners of his eyes glistened with unshed tears. It was the sound of a man shattered by grief and resurrected by joy.

Victoria jumped, thoroughly alarmed by his erratic behavior. "Son?"
