Kayla sat right next to Lyra and asked, "Lyra, what's going on with Rowan?"
"Who knows," Lyra replied. She was too busy worrying about a sudden wave of nausea. As long as Rowan sat across from her, her stomach clamped up in defensive spasms.
But she was doing okay today. She could actually keep her food down.
Lyra glanced up, only to realize Rowan was sporting a faint, relaxed smile. He looked completely at ease, as if he owned the place, which only confused her more.
With an outsider present, the usually rambunctious twins were unnaturally well-behaved. Little Harry blinked his big, round eyes, sizing up Rowan before turning back to Lyra. He reached out his chubby hands. "Up..."
Lyra reached out to stroke her nephew's hair, just about to tell him no, when Rowan stood up. "I'll take him."
He effortlessly scooped the little boy into his arms.
Caleb's face was a picture of utter confusion.
The typically loud little terror was instantly subdued. Held firmly against Rowan's chest, Harry went rigid, utterly terrified and not daring to let out a single peep.
Kayla offered a polite smile. "I didn't expect the kids to like Rowan so much. He actually wants you to hold him."
Caleb's lips twitched as he mercilessly burst the bubble. "Are you sure it's like, and not fear?"
The twins looked genuinely terrified of the man.
Lyra couldn't help but laugh at Harry's expression—furious but too scared to wail.
She was just about to tell the nanny to take him when Kayla gently lifted her son from Rowan's arms. "Let's not get distracted by the kids. Let our guest eat."
Guest?
Rowan shot Lyra a look. He knew instantly that she hadn't breathed a word to her family about them signing the Marriage Certificate.
After dinner, Rowan spent about half an hour chatting with Caleb in the study.
Before leaving, he swung by Lyra's room.
She was glued to her laptop, monitoring her stocks. Since she had invested in long-term US stocks, it didn't require much active management, but she liked keeping an eye on it anyway.
"Then do you agree?" Lyra pushed back slightly, a faint blush staining her cheeks, though her tone remained fierce.
Rowan stared down at her. "I agree to everything."
She was in a highly sensitive stage of her pregnancy, and he knew better than to agitate her. "Whatever you want, I'll give it to you."
Lyra felt like she had won and retracted her glare. Yet, his sudden compliance—giving her everything she demanded without a fight—left her feeling strangely unsettled.
Before she could process the shift, Rowan leaned in and kissed her again. She tried to lean back, but his hand cupped the back of her head, holding her in place.
His warm breath enveloped her.
It was a lingering, intoxicating kiss, soft and consuming.
A moment later...
Kayla pushed the door open, carrying a tray of tea and snacks, and walked right into the middle of the intimate scene.
