The only way to break the current stalemate was to confess her pregnancy, but she couldn't bring herself to say the words.
If she told him the truth, he naturally wouldn't touch her. But once the secret was out, she would be completely trapped in his grasp, with absolutely no hope of ever escaping him.
It was a lose-lose situation.
Rowan wrapped his arm around her, giving her soft frame a gentle shake. "Make it clear. Are we staying on the yacht tonight, or are you coming with me to take wedding photos tomorrow?"
"Photos."
Rowan smiled, a predatory curve of his lips. "Are you going to try and run away?"
"No."
Lyra had to string him along for now. She gave him a verbal agreement, her skin overly aware of the rock-solid wall of muscle pressed against her. She awkwardly averted her gaze and urged, "Go put your clothes on first."
He was entirely bare, his hot, taut body molded against hers. The sheer heat rolling off him made her hyper-aware and deeply uncomfortable.
Lyra just wanted to survive the night; she would figure out an escape plan later.
When she finally returned home, her family was still awake. Naturally, they asked where she had been, and she threw together a flimsy excuse.
After asking Martha to brew some warm tea, Lyra headed upstairs for a quick shower. This time, she wore a shower cap to keep her hair dry. She tossed her ruined, seawater-soaked clothes in the trash, slipped into a set of soft, dry pajamas, and headed back downstairs.
Mrs. Whittaker had prepared a bowl of soup for her. Lyra finished her food, drank her tea, and went straight to bed.
Tomorrow's problems could wait until tomorrow.
Lyra stumbled back half a step, desperate to escape the mounting pressure. Rowan simply stood up, closed the distance, and clamped a firm hand around her wrist. She thrashed against his grip. "Can we just talk about this?"
"Go upstairs and get your bag first." Refusing to hear a word of it, he dragged her toward the staircase.
As he pulled her up the stairs, Lyra scrambled for excuses. "It's just not a good day to do this. We haven't planned anything. It's completely inappropriate."
Rowan simply grabbed her purse, flipped it open, and checked for her ID. "There's nothing inappropriate about it. It's just a piece of paper. We aren't hosting the actual wedding today."
He slung her small purse over his shoulder, grabbed her hand, and marched her back downstairs.
Lyra had no choice but to stumble along as he led her out of the villa and shoved her into the passenger seat of his car parked outside the gates.
