Chapter 53
Melanie had heard that Echward was doent not only in Encarian, but also in jeawolgi, Hyelsina, and another rare language. Even with her own capabilities, Melanie had to admire his linguistic talent, knowing that most people struggled to master even one foreign language.
Given the limited educational resources of the time, Edward’s extensive knowledge spoke volumes about both the Graysons‘ investment in his education and the government’s grooming of his talents. At this moment, Melanie finally understood why some brilliant people chose to work in public service for modest salaries they had a greater mission that transcended monetary wealth.
Melanie felt genuine admiration for Edward for a brief moment, but she quickly retumed to stumbling through basic Encarian phrases. The lesson continued for two hours, during which Edward was amazed by how quickly Melanie picked up new concepts–even faster than he had when leaming the language.
Although he was surprised, Edward maintained his composure while wondering if Melanie was actually a hidden genius whose talent was buried due to her upbringing. He thought she was like an unpolished gem. Her true brilliance was beginning to shine through under his guidance.
When Edward noticed it was almost midnight, he grew concerned. After all, Melanie was pregnant, and it was vital for her to get enough rest.
He said. “It’s getting late, and you should rest. We’ll continue tomorrow night.”
Melanie was tired of pretending and was relieved to hear this. She quickly turned off the light and replied, “Okay, let’s sleep. I need to open the store early
Edward tucked the blanket around her before settling in himself. “Goodnight.”
Melanie tumed over, then rumed back when she remembered something, “I almost forgot to tell you–Julia will work at my boutique.”
Edward could not help but chuckle, imagining Timothy’s reaction to his sister working in a small boutique. “That’s good. She’s old enough to make her own choices. This might be better for her if she wasn’t happy at her desk job.”
Melanie giggled. “Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of her. She’s been so land to me. As long as the boutique makes money, I’ll ensure she’s well paid.”
“I didn’t realize you were so loyal to your friends,” Edward teased, his smile faint,
Melanie sniffled. “Of course I am. She’s been good to me, unlike your sisters…”
she caught herself too late, realizing she could not criticize his family. Even though they were technically mamed, they were not close enough for her to badmouth. his family.
Fortunately, Edward did not take offense to it. In fact, he sighed understandingly. He said, “Sophie isn’t really a bad person. She’s just young and spoiled. We’re partly to blame for that. Don’t feel like you have to tolerate her direct, though.
“You re her elder sister–in–law and have every right to correct her behavior. If she throws a tantrum, I’ll support you.”
Melanie could tell that even Edward felt exasperated with his youngest sister. Being the family’s only biological daughter, Luca and the rest of the family naturally pampered her.
