Chapter 43
Edward had just finished work and was eager to ask Melanie about her store since he had come home early. However, as soon as he entered the neighborhood, he was taken aback to see another man flirting with his wife.
Melanie appeared just as surprised. Clancing at the man behind Tanner with a strange expression, she slowly replied, “I’m not seeing anyone.”
Tanner’s mischievous grin widened, and a hint of warmth sparked in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Edward’s face grew increasingly dark. This woman, who was married and with a child, was chatting so casually with another man
“Oh, I see. which family are you related to?” Tanner continued to press, clearly intrigued.
Since he hadn’t seen Melanie in the neighborhood before, it suggested that she was a relative of someone living there. With a beauty like hers, he should have recognized her.
Melanie tilted her head playfully and replied, “I haven’t finished my sentence. Pianot seeing anyone, but I am married.”
Tanner’s smile froze, surprise flickering across his face. He wondered if she was just teasing him and questioned if she was genuinely married.
A wave of frustration washed over him. Nevertheless, he pressed on, “oh, really? I’m curious–who’s your husband?”
Just then, a calm voice interrupted from behind him. “That would be me.”
Tanner turned to see Edward approaching. His expression shifted dramatically as he glanced between Melanie and Edward, clearly in disbelief. “This woman is your wife?”
Edward tool Melanie’s hand, pulling her closer, and he replied steadily, “Yeah.”
Tanner’s face contorted in distaste as if he had swallowed something unpleasant. “But I thought you weren’t getting married? What made you d Melanie watched the exchange, surprised by the animosity. It seemed like the two men had a contentious but familiar relationship, almost like rivals.
change your mind? “I wondered when did you start meddling in others‘ affairs. You ask a little too much,” Edward remarked, implying that Tanner was being nosy. Tanner quickly caught on, his expression darkening. He shot one last glance at Melanie before turning to leave.
With the heat of the day already stifling, Edward still held Melanie’s hand, slick with sweat. Once Tarmer was gone, Melanie pulled her hand away without hesitation. “Didn’t you have to work overtime today?”
As they walked home, Edward noticed that Melanie hadn’t brought up what had just transpired. He couldn’t help but let a smirk play at the comers of his lips. “I didn’t have to.”
The rest of the
walk was quiet. Upon returning home, they found Sapphire playing with Nellie. She looked surprised to see them together. “Melanie, have you sorted everything out at your boutique?”
Melanie nodded. “Yes, the inventory is all setup. We’ll officially open tomorrow,”
Sapphire’s gaze fell on Melanie’s pink dress, and her eyes widened with delight. “Where did you
get that dress? From the neighboring city?”
Melanie had previously wom a dress that Sapphire had bought for her, and it was clear that the latter wouldn’t skimp on quality. The clothes she purchased were always of high quality.
However, compared to the pink dress Melanie was wearing now, those other dresses instantly paled in comparison.
This pink dress not only complemented Melanie’s fair complexion but also made her figure look particularly slim and feminine.
No matter how old a
la woman was, the desire to look beautiful was universal, and seeing such a lovely dress, it was hard not to ask about it.
“Sapphire, what do you think about this dress? Do you like it? I picked it out from the inventory I bought at the wholesale market today. Besides pink, it also comes In black and red. I can get you one, too, if you like it!” Melanie offered Sapphire.
