York's temper instantly flared. "What the hell are you trying to do?! Even if you don't care about Emeline, are you seriously going to abandon Caleb too?! Do you have any idea what we're walking into? We don't even know if we're bringing home his body or just his belongings! And right now, in the middle of all this, you're deciding to pull your entitled spoiled princess routine? If you want to scream at me, fine, but can you at least wait until we get him home?!"
York was genuinely, explosively furious. He was teetering on the edge of losing his mind.
Sharon had been impossible for days, totally immune to reason, and now she was resorting to manipulative stunts.
He had bitten his tongue, yielded time and time again, and this was how she repaid him!
And what terrified him was the realization that he was completely powerless against this version of her.
The old Sharon had meticulously stripped away every single one of her thorns, shaping herself to fit his exact mold. He had been her entire universe.
So this new, volatile Sharon made York feel wildly out of control and deeply unsettled.
It was as if the wild, untamed girl she used to be had suddenly resurrected—but this time, her thorns were tearing him to shreds.
Faced with York's explosive rage, tears inevitably spilled down Sharon's cheeks, but she held her ground. "Pull over. I'm riding with Adele."
She would never abandon Caleb!
Hearing that only fueled York's fury, but he checked the rearview mirror, yanked the steering wheel, and aggressively swerved the car toward the shoulder.
Perhaps it was the adrenaline, but as the car lurched to a halt, York simultaneously rolled down his window.
However, he also slammed his hand against the central lock, securing the doors.
When the door handle wouldn't budge, Sharon whipped her head around to glare at him.
York unclipped his seatbelt. In an entirely unexpected move, he reached out, rested his hand on top of her head, and said softly, "Stop fighting me."
Sharon froze.
Before she could process it, York leaned aggressively across the console and pressed his lips firmly against hers. Pulling back slightly, he locked eyes with her. "Be good. Please."
Sharon was absolutely stunned. In the next breath, she recognized the dark, transactional glint in his eyes: Is this enough? Isn't this exactly what you've been throwing a fit over?
A suffocating panic seized her chest. Her eyes flashed a brilliant red as she ground out every single syllable. "Mr. Fordham. Let me out of this car."
Was it just that he was too accustomed to acting like a god, incapable of normal communication, and this explosive fight had finally pushed him to the absolute edge, leaving this primal possession as his only method of begging her to stay?
If he truly felt absolutely nothing for her, he should have signed the papers without a second thought. He wouldn't be fighting her like this, and he certainly wouldn't be kissing her. Right?
Sharon was drowning in absolute chaos, unable to untangle York's twisted motives. All she could do was endure the suffocating, unyielding force of his mouth.
Just then, the heavily modified black H2 Hummer roared up behind them, its massive tires slowing to a crawl.
Towering at over six feet tall and just as wide, it crept up alongside the sleek black Maybach like a terrifying steel beast.
Adele rolled down her window.
Josiah hit the brakes, and both of them simultaneously peered into the Maybach.
The scene inside hit them instantly.
Adele's eyes widened in shock, and out of pure reflex, she immediately turned to check Josiah's reaction.
