No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 26

The moment the words left her mouth, a wave of guilt washed over her.

Adele's face immediately dropped, her brows pulling together in fierce disappointment.

Sharon braced herself, fully expecting Josiah's notoriously vicious tongue to rip into her for being pathetic—for acting like less than a dog and still backing down.

He had certainly never pulled punches with her before.

But his reaction was entirely unexpected.

It was almost as if he had predicted her surrender. His face betrayed absolutely zero shock or disappointment. He simply offered a single word: "Okay."

Adele was completely stunned by his calm.

Sharon was equally shocked, though a heavy sigh of relief escaped her lips.

Adele wasn't having it. She opened her mouth to argue, but Josiah grabbed her arm and gave his head a microscopic shake.

Forced to back down, Adele stomped her foot in pure, unfiltered frustration.

For some reason, Sharon's eyes welled with tears. Catching sight of her crying, Adele froze, immediately swallowed her anger, and silently turned to leave.

Josiah didn't spare Sharon another glance. He just turned on his heel and casually lit the cigarette he'd been holding this whole time.

Watching them walk away, Sharon felt a profound, sickening guilt for wasting her friends' fierce protection.

Josiah had drawn a line in the sand, throwing down his absolute power alongside Adele to back her into a position of strength, and yet she... she had folded like a spineless coward.

Just then, Josiah glanced over his shoulder through a cloud of smoke, locked eyes with her for a split second, and kept walking.

Sharon's eyes burned even hotter.

York put the car in gear, his silence heavy and suffocating.

But the second they were moving, he slammed his foot on the gas, the sudden lurch making Sharon gasp in shock.

She turned to look at him.

His face was an icy mask. He finally eased off the accelerator and spat, "No wonder you were completely out of line this morning. You had your backup waiting. Watching your husband get ripped apart first thing in the morning... did that make you feel good?"

Hearing the sheer venom in his voice, Sharon replied evenly, "Actually, yes. My only regret is not calling them for backup sooner. I've wasted too much time."

Suddenly, she felt utterly exhausted. She didn't even have the energy to justify herself anymore.

Sharon kept speaking, her tone mechanical. "Once we pick up Caleb, I'm moving out. I'll have my lawyer draw up the papers and send them to you. I expect you to sign them immediately."

A violent, uncontrollable inferno of rage erupted in York's chest. "How far do you plan to push this until you're satisfied?! Are you seriously going to ruin the day we bring them home just to prove a point?"

Faced with his explosive anger, Sharon remained entirely detached. "I'm not pushing anything. And I'm not asking for your permission. I am informing you."

The finality of it left York temporarily speechless.

After a heavy silence, he ground out, "Good. Fine... You're unbelievable. Just throwing my exact words back in my face, aren't you?"

Sharon completely ignored him, turning her face away to stare out the window again.

This was exactly why she hadn't jumped into Josiah's car.

There were things she needed to say directly to his face, with no escape.

Seconds ticked by before York's voice finally shattered the quiet. "I'm not divorcing you."

Sharon's brows pulled together in genuine disbelief. She turned to look at him. "Why?"
