Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 586

As soon as those two thoughts popped into her head, Nora immediately dismissed the second one.

That only left the first.

He was the one who explicitly claimed he wanted a child, yet he had turned around and bought contraceptive pills behind her back.

They always said a man's heart was a deep ocean of secrets, and they were absolutely right!

How could he say one thing to her face and do the exact opposite behind her back?

She only found out because she accidentally stumbled upon it. What if she hadn't?

Was he planning to slip them into her food?

The more Nora thought about it, the angrier she got, but she couldn't exactly throw a fit. After all, Hudson didn't know she had seen the date on the receipt, and she couldn't just start a fight out of nowhere.

...

Back in their room, Nora began packing her suitcase.

Hudson helped by bringing all her things over to her so she wouldn't have to keep walking back and forth.

In the middle of the task, a knock sounded at the door.

Nora quickly stood up to open it. When she saw the person standing there, she was taken aback. "Dr. Vane? What brings you here?"

Dr. Silas Vane stood in the doorway wearing an old gray cotton robe, grinning broadly and clutching a cloth bag. "Your husband finished his medication, right? I came to mix up a few more doses..."

Without waiting for an invitation, he strolled right into the room.

Nora followed behind him, a sudden wave of unease washing over her. "Doctor, what kind of medication are you talking about?"

The last time Hudson had an episode and temporarily lost his hearing, she had asked him about it. He claimed it was just a complication and that he'd be fine once the blood clot cleared.

Why did he still need medication?

Was he not cured yet?

Just as Dr. Vane opened his mouth to reply, Hudson's cool voice interjected. "It's for my overall health. We're trying for a baby, remember?"

Nora shot him a skeptical look before turning back to the old doctor.

Meeting her gaze, Dr. Vane nodded without missing a beat. "Right, exactly! It's to tune up his body. Your husband has a strong constitution, but he still needs a bit of fortifying to increase your chances of getting pregnant."

As he spoke, he pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his cloth bag and held it out. "I'm short on a few herbs, so I'll need you to go buy these. Making the concoction isn't hard, I just need about a day to get it done..."

"We're flying back to San Francisco today," Hudson said flatly.

Dr. Vane grinned, flashing his teeth. "That's no problem at all! I'll just go to San Francisco with you. Heh, I've never been there before. It'll be a great chance to broaden my horizons."

Hudson frowned. He was about to refuse when Nora smiled and nodded. "Sure, that sounds wonderful."

Hearing he was headed to San Francisco, Dr. Vane's face lit up like a Christmas tree.

He eagerly trailed behind Nora, clutching his old cloth bag in one hand while using the other to shove a few loose silver needles back inside.
