"That's impossible..." Liam's Adam's apple bobbed as he instinctively shook his head.
Hudson arched a brow. "Why is it impossible?"
Liam swallowed hard, panic creeping into his voice. "Because... because The Ivory Pill is their ultimate leverage. Shouldn't River be using it to threaten us?"
Hudson chuckled softly. "Do you really think River is that stupid?"
If River knew The Ivory Pill was the one weapon that could turn the tables, why would he leave it lying around?
The color drained from Liam's face. "But... but even so, we have to confirm it before we jump to conclusions. We can't just give up right now..."
"I haven't given up."
Hudson pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly tired of the conversation. "Enough. We'll deal with the rest after the holidays..."
He didn't have much time left anyway.
The least he could do was give Nora a perfect New Year.
When the time came, if the pill truly was gone, he would finally accept his fate...
But not today.
Liam took a deep breath, refusing to back down. "Then we have to do something now. We can't just sit around and wait for the end."
"Who said I'm sitting around?" Hudson interrupted, his tone even. "I've already had Arthur look into the second Ivory Pill. The Whitman Family definitely had two of them..."
"That's incredible!" Liam’s face lit up with desperate hope. "Where is the second one?"
"I don't know."
The smile froze on Liam's face. "Excuse me?"
Hudson gave him a sideways glance. "Centuries ago, the Whitman ancestor saved The Dowager Empress and was rewarded with two Ivory Pills. Elias Whitman kept one as a family heirloom, and gave the other away. As for who he gave it to, we haven't found out yet."
Liam snapped out of his shock. "That's fine. Just knowing a second one exists is enough."
It meant there was still hope!
"I'll start digging immediately. I'll tear through every record associated with the Whitman Family. Even if I have to rip the city apart, I'll find out where that pill went."
Seeing Liam suddenly fired up with determination, Hudson let out an amused breath. "Stop obsessing over my problems. You should pay a little more attention to your own..."
Liam blinked in total confusion. "My own problems?"
Hudson's lips curled into a smirk. "You disappeared with Phoebe Vaughn for an entire night, and showed up the next day with a busted lip. What? Did you rekindle the old flame?"
"..."
Liam's face flushed a violent shade of red, and he stammered defensively, "I... I was just stressed..."
"Oh? Is that so?"
"I swear!" Liam looked like a man desperately trying to clear his name. He held up three fingers. "I swear on my life... I'd rather stay single forever than get back together with Phoebe!"
As for that night...
Could he really admit that Phoebe had drugged him?
She had ridden him so hard he thought his spine was going to snap!
"Alright," Hudson chuckled, deciding not to press the issue. "...Was there anything else?"
