Jade wasn't listening to a single word he said.
A sudden thought struck her, and her eyes lit up with sinister excitement. "Right! Dad, do you remember that man I told you about? Nora's biological father, the guy who spent fifteen years in prison..."
Marcus frowned. "Why are you bringing him up?"
When he first heard from Jade that Penelope's ex-husband was an ex-convict, he had thrown a massive fit, furious that Penelope had hidden something so monumental from him.
But after she had sobbed about being terrified he would abandon her and groveled endlessly for his forgiveness, his anger had eventually subsided.
He certainly hadn't expected Jade to bring the man up again now.
"Didn't you know? He went to prison because he raped Nora! How could a degenerate who screwed around with her own biological father possibly marry into the Lancaster family?! If the public finds out about this, there's no way the Lancasters would keep her!"
"Stop spouting this nonsense!"
"I'm telling the truth! If you don't believe me, ask Penelope."
Marcus's frown deepened.
He found it hard to believe any monster in the world could commit such atrocities against their own flesh and blood.
But seeing Jade so absolutely certain, a seed of doubt began to take root.
"Then I'll call Penelope right now."
"Already on it," Jade said, whipping out her phone and dialing the number.
...
After a few days of rest, Penelope had finally gotten the bandages removed from her head. The doctor said she could be discharged in a few days.
But she had been living on edge.
Ever since Hudson had slapped her and left in a cold fury, Marcus had been noticeably distant.
Why was Jade dragging this skeleton back out of the closet?
What on earth was she plotting now?
"Say something! Is it true or not?!" Jade snapped impatiently when the silence stretched on.
"It's true, it's true," Penelope stammered out frantically.
On the other end of the line, Marcus's face drained of color.
He had no idea Penelope's ex-husband was such an utterly depraved degenerate.
To actually lay hands on his own daughter!
He was a monster!
Seeing her father's darkened expression, Jade knew her hook had landed perfectly. A triumphant smirk spread across her face. "Then do you know where he is right now? I want to see him..."
