Hudson Jordan pushed up his glasses, his eyes flashing with momentary surprise when he recognized Julian.
He then offered a polite nod in greeting.
Julian returned the gesture with a courteous, indifferent smile.
A silent, mutual understanding settled instantly between the two men who stood at the absolute apex of society.
Naturally, Zander didn't recognize Hudson.
Despite being the heir of the Roth family, his daily life was confined to his unit, completely detached from Riverport's elite social circles.
Seeing Hudson step in, his expression soured even further. "And who are you?"
He then turned his baseless accusations back onto Eliza. "I didn't expect you to turn out like this, Eliza. I bet you haven't been lacking male company these past three years, right? What, am I just the husband you cast aside now?"
Eliza was so enraged she didn't even have the energy to curse at him.
Hudson wasn't particularly close to Eliza; they had only met twice, and he only knew her as his sister's best friend.
But hearing Zander's slanderous remarks against him.
He shot Zander an icy glare. "Sir, defamation carries legal consequences. Are you hoping I serve you a lawsuit?"
Zander was choked into silence, unable to utter a single word.
Hudson turned to Eliza, asking politely, "Are you alright, Ms. Shaw?"
"Thank you, I'm fine." Eliza shook her head.
Pedestrians seeking shelter from the rain were already starting to peek over; the group's striking looks and commanding auras were too hard to ignore.
Even on this storm-ravaged street, they looked like a scene straight out of a movie.
Gwen frowned; the last thing she wanted was for her brother and best friend to end up on the front page of tomorrow's gossip columns.
Her eyes darted around, lingering on the deeply resentful Zander and the calm Julian.
She suddenly let out a cold laugh, deciding on a final, definitive approach.
"Since Mr. Roth is clinging on like a leech today, and Julian happens to be here..."
