Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 187

Trading the divorce decrees for a fresh marriage license.

They wouldn't even have to step outside the building to seamlessly transition to their new life.

—So that was the play.

Standing on the stairs, Eliza watched Eleanor pat her purse approvingly before striding over to take a seat in the waiting area.

Eleanor sat rigidly upright, her coral necklace complimenting her glowing complexion.

There was even a faint, triumphant smile of pure relief painted on her face.

Eliza pulled her gaze away.

She felt absolutely nothing.

No rage, no bitterness, no humiliating sting of being played like a pawn.

Nothing at all.

Because whatever twisted games these people played had absolutely nothing to do with her anymore.

The divorce decree resting in the side pocket of her bag was quiet and final, tucked neatly beside her ID, phone, and car keys.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone.

Unlocked it, opened her contacts.

The first call she made wasn't to Gwen.

It was to Jane York.

The line connected after two rings.

"Jane, it's done."

A beat of silence hung on the other end.

"No unexpected roadblocks, I hope?"

"None. It was over in minutes," Eliza replied, her voice far too steady for someone who had just nuked her marriage.

"I'm heading out now. I should be on set by twelve-thirty."

"Great. Group choreography kicks off at one-thirty, so grab some food when you get here. There are sandwiches in the fridge in Studio A's lounge—"

"Understood. Thanks, Jane."

She thought of the lemon pound cake Julian had given her, and her eyes crinkled into a genuine smile.

She was in a phenomenal mood today; she might just eat it all.

"Alright, drive safe."

"Will do."

Hanging up, Eliza descended the rest of the stairs.

As she cut across the lobby, her peripheral vision locked onto Eleanor sitting in the waiting area.

Eleanor spotted her too.
