Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 40

Upon hearing Zander finally concede, Eliza's expression remained entirely impassive.

It was as if she had expected this exact outcome all along.

"Tomorrow at nine in the morning. Meet me outside the courthouse. Don't be late."

With that, she looped her arm through Gwen's and turned back toward the clinic.

Julian, still leaning against the doorframe, cast a cold, detached glance at the utterly broken Zander.

Zander clearly noticed him, too.

The two men exchanged a look across the yard, their eyes locking in silent scrutiny and warning.

The next morning.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Julian asked seriously, his hands buried in the pockets of his white coat.

Eliza smiled and nodded. "Yes, more than I've ever been in my life. Thank you for taking such good care of me, Julian."

Julian nodded, glancing at the waiting car. "Alright. Take care of yourself."

Eliza didn't ask if he was planning to leave the island. To her, they were just two people who happened to cross paths.

They might never even see each other again.

Still, she smiled warmly. "Goodbye, Julian."

"Goodbye. Safe travels." Julian held the car door open for her.

Watching the car drive away, a faint smile touched Julian's lips.

I'll see you in Riverport.

On the drive back, Gwen teased her playfully. "So, what was it like spending a whole month with your old college crush? Did any romantic sparks fly?"

Eliza laughed, playfully smacking Gwen's arm. "What are you talking about? He was just being incredibly kind. Stop starting rumors."

Gwen burst out laughing. "Oh, is someone blushing? I recall a certain someone talking about how gorgeous he was, saying if you were going to date anyone, it'd be a guy exactly like him."
