Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 26

"Let go!"

Zander completely ignored the countless pairs of eyes watching them and mercilessly shook off Yvonne's arm.

Yvonne cried out in alarm. Weighed down by her heavy wedding dress, she stumbled and nearly fell flat on the ground in front of everyone, looking utterly pathetic.

Pushing his way through the crowd, Zander sprinted desperately in that direction, his eyes rimmed red.

"Eliza! Eliza! Listen to me!"

Just a second before Eliza and Gwen were about to step through the deck doors, he reached out and grabbed Eliza's shoulder.

Sensing the familiar presence closing in behind her, a flash of extreme disgust passed through Eliza's eyes.

She turned and shifted her body slightly to the side, perfectly dodging the man's touch.

Zander's hand froze in mid-air.

Eliza looked at the man in front of her, his eyes bloodshot, panting slightly.

"Don't touch me. You're dirty."

Those few words were feather-light, yet they landed like a resounding slap, viciously striking Zander's face.

"No... it's not what you think!"

Zander stared agonizingly into her icy eyes, his voice terribly hoarse, carrying an almost pathetic plea. "Eliza, this is fake! My engagement to Yvonne is fake! My parents threatened me with their lives, and Yvonne... she tried to commit suicide over what happened before. I only set up this party to temporarily pacify them! It's just a formality!"

He took a step forward, trying to salvage something. "I swear, I only have you in my heart. Believe me this once, just this once!"

Gwen shielded Eliza behind her like a fiercely protective mother hen. With her arms crossed, she looked Zander up and down in his white suit as if he were an alien.

"Where did this stray dog come from, barking all over the place? Did someone forget your leash, letting you run out here to bite people?"

Gwen fired off words like a machine gun. "A fake engagement? Wearing a haute couture wedding dress, booking half a luxury yacht, and inviting a boatload of media and socialites, and you have the fucking nerve to tell me it's just a formality? Are you missing a brain stem, or just too castrated to admit it? You want to be a whore and still have a monument built to your chastity. Zander, you've truly set a new Guinness World Record for the lowest human decency!"

Zander's face turned livid from the insults, yet he still stared stubbornly at Eliza, trying to block their path. "Eliza, let me finish..."

"Get the hell out of the way! Good dogs don't block the road!" Gwen shouted sharply, unceremoniously shoving him.

"We really must be blind to have come here today. Eliza, let's go!"

The commotion here was simply too loud, and combined with the fact that Zander was already the center of attention, his act of throwing off Yvonne and sprinting over had caught everyone's eyes.

By now, more and more guests were gathering toward the doors with their wine glasses in hand.

"Who is that woman? Why is she tangling with Mr. Roth?"

"Yeah, what's up with those two women? How dare they cause a scene at the Roth family's engagement party?"

Whispers began to spread.

Left entirely abandoned in the center of the stage, Yvonne gripped the hem of her skirt, her face twisted in fury.

She watched how Zander acted so subservient and incredibly cautious in front of Eliza.

The jealousy in her heart grew like wild weeds.

What right did Eliza have?

She had schemed so hard, even swallowing sleeping pills, just to earn this glorious yacht engagement party today.

She had put her own life and dignity on the line!

Yet the moment Eliza showed up, Zander chased after her like a dog, leaving her alone on the stage to be mocked by everyone!

And now Eliza wanted to just walk away? Then what was all her suffering for?

Dream on!
