And Zander, the moment he heard Yvonne's words, was completely dumbstruck.
He turned back in disbelief to look at Yvonne on the stage, then rigidly turned his head toward Eliza, who was now being condemned by everyone. His lips trembled, but he couldn't even form a complete sentence.
"Eliza... I... I didn't know she would..."
"She drank too much! Yes! Just ignore her!"
The gentle ocean breeze continued to blow.
Yet Eliza felt the surrounding air become bone-chillingly cold.
She stood all alone in the center of the crowd, bearing the judgmental stares shooting from every direction.
This was her ex-husband, her childhood sweetheart whom she had loved for ten years.
This was the man who kept insisting that he only loved her.
Using an incredibly absurd fake engagement.
He had bought her the most vicious humiliation the world could offer.
Eliza slowly raised her head, locking her eyes on the secretly smug Yvonne on the stage.
Since fate was forcing her onto the stage.
Then she wouldn't hold back.
"Eliza..." he called out with a trembling voice, reaching out to pull her like a child who had done something wrong.
"Don't say my name."
Eliza cut him off coldly.
She looked down and fished a folded document from her elegant clutch.
It was the divorce agreement she carried with her, stating she would walk away with nothing.
With a loud 'smack', Eliza slammed the agreement onto a nearby display table stacked with champagne.
The bold black and white letters spelling 'Divorce Agreement' were glaringly obvious under the blinding sunlight.
She then pulled a fountain pen from her bag.
She pushed it, along with the agreement, right in front of Zander.
"That's right, I did come looking for you. I just wanted to remind you."
"Before you remarry, you need to finalize your divorce first."
"I imagine you wouldn't want your delicate little wife... Yvonne, to be the other woman."
The surrounding whispers instantly stopped, everyone's eyes widening.
"Zander," Eliza's voice carried clearly to every corner of the deck.
"Didn't you just keep claiming that you love me, and that this is merely a show to pacify your family?"
