Zander's taut nerves finally relaxed, but an indescribable wave of irritation immediately took their place.

Seeing Yvonne without so much as a wrinkle on her dress, his mind uncontrollably snapped back to the look of sheer devastation in Eliza's eyes when she had hurled the pillow at him.

The second he dropped Yvonne off at the estate, he intended to head straight back to the hospital.

Noticing he was about to leave, Yvonne tugged at his sleeve, asking with feigned innocence, "By the way, I heard Eliza passed out! Is she okay?"

Zander patted her hand reassuringly. "She's fine! Get some rest, I'm heading to the hospital."

He turned to leave.

"Zander!"

A stern, commanding shout halted him in his tracks.

Dr. Harrison Roth and his wife Eleanor were walking down the staircase.

Since reclaiming his place in the Roth family, he and Yvonne had both moved into The Roth Estate!

However, he spent most of his time at the fire station, leaving Yvonne as the one who mostly kept his parents company.

They practically treated her as their own daughter-in-law.

Eleanor pulled Yvonne into her arms affectionately and shot her son a sharp glare. "What's wrong with you? Yvonne just had a terrible scare, and you're leaving without even comforting her? Did that ex-wife of yours brainwash you again?"

"Mom! Eliza's leg is severely injured—"

"Shut up!" Harrison snapped coldly.

"A shameless woman who abandoned you doesn't deserve you running back to her like a stray dog. Look at Yvonne—think of all the grievances she's suffered for you over the years! Your mother and I have already decided. Next month, we're throwing a grand wedding for you and Yvonne to make up for the years she's spent by your side without an official title!"

"What wedding? I absolutely refuse!" Zander shouted, feeling as though he had been struck by lightning.
