Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 17

Out of service.

She had disconnected her number.

Refusing to believe it, he drove like a madman to her workplace, only for the receptionist to tell him, "Ms. Shaw has taken an indefinite leave of absence."

Zander stood frozen in the lobby, a deafening buzz ringing in his ears.

Out of the entire world, he suddenly realized that, just like three years ago, he had completely lost track of her again.

Inside a deafening bar, neon lights pulsed with blinding colors.

Zander sat at the counter, knocking back shots of hard liquor one after another.

The burn scarred his throat, yet it did nothing to extinguish the raging fire in his chest.

"Why did you leave... Eliza... come back. Punish me, please..." he mumbled, burying his face in his arms, his voice thick with suffocating agony.

"Zander..."

A tearful, fragile voice spoke up behind him.

Yvonne had somehow tracked him down.

Watching the man before her drink himself to death over another woman, Yvonne's hands clenched so hard her manicured nails dug painfully into her skin.

She wished she could slice that bitch Eliza into a million pieces!

But she took a deep breath, stepped forward, and gently wrapped her arms around Zander's waist, pressing her face against his broad back. "Zander, please stop torturing yourself like this. It breaks my heart. Since she's so dead set on leaving, why are you destroying yourself over someone who doesn't even care about you?"

Zander forcefully shoved her away, his bloodshot eyes glaring at her with an unprecedented harshness. "Yvonne, do not say a single bad word about Eliza! And as for that ridiculous wedding, I am absolutely not attending!"

Yvonne stumbled back a few steps, tears instantly spilling from her eyes.
