I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 10

Under his piercing stare, Bonnie's back went rigid, and a layer of nervous sweat coated her palms.

After what felt like an eternity, Quentin finally broke eye contact, his long fingers picking up the porcelain spoon once more.

"I'll give you three days. If you can't prove your worth to my satisfaction within those three days, pack your things and get out immediately."

His voice was as devoid of warmth as ever, but to Bonnie, it sounded like a complete pardon.

"Thank you, Mr. Vance! I promise you won't regret this!"

Bonnie nodded emphatically, the color finally returning to her face.

Quentin ignored her, slowly finishing the porridge in his bowl.

In truth, he utterly despised inconveniences and hated dealing with messy personal drama from anyone in his orbit.

But there was no denying that the simple, homestyle dishes on the table perfectly suited his palate.

He suffered from chronic stomach issues, making every meal feel like a chore, but today, he actually felt comfortable eating.

Quentin cleaned his plate, even finishing most of the stir-fried yam.

Setting his chopsticks down, he stood up, shot her a towering, dismissive glance, and turned toward the gym.

It wasn't until his broad back disappeared down the hallway that Bonnie finally let out a massive breath.

She collapsed back into her chair, only then realizing her shirt was damp with cold sweat.

The pressure was suffocating.

Just existing in the same room as this man required courage.

Not daring to waste any time, Bonnie practically inhaled the rest of her porridge and quickly cleared the table.

She fully understood her current predicament.

She had no backup plan. She had to push forward.

If she wanted to keep this high-paying job, she had to prove she was utterly indispensable.

The old saying went: the way to a man's heart is through his stomach.

She had no interest in capturing Quentin's heart, but she desperately needed to secure her paycheck.

Scanning the fridge, Bonnie decided to make a rich herbal chicken soup for dinner.

She picked out several warming herbs meant to cut through grease and promote vitality, washed them carefully, and stuffed them inside the chicken.

As the clay pot simmered on the stove, a uniquely savory aroma gradually filled the kitchen.

It was a flawless blend of herbal fragrance and rich chicken broth—neither overpowering the other, but instead creating a mouthwatering harmony.
