Since York had spoken, no one dared to disrespect him. He was the rising star of the venture capital world, boasting a flawless track record and leading The Foster Group to new heights. Getting on his good side meant stepping closer to elite circles.
Besides, Cloudview Manor was by reservation only, a place reserved for the rich and powerful where the average meal started at thousands of dollars. No one wanted to pass up a free ride like that.
It was obvious York was going all out for Hailey—doting on her, protecting her, and building relationships with her colleagues so his little girl wouldn't be bullied at work.
The longer Gillian stayed, the more suffocated she felt. She wanted to step out for some fresh air, but since Director Thomas was still there, she couldn't just slip away.
Hailey beamed, clinging to York's arm. "My boyfriend is treating us, so please don't be polite! You all have to come!"
Standing next to the tall man, the young girl looked incredibly soft and delicate. The man's broad shoulders and narrow waist cut an imposing, powerful figure. Together, they looked like the perfect match.
"Your boyfriend is so handsome..." someone complimented. "He spoils you so much. It's obvious he really loves you."
Basking in the man's affection, Hailey glowed. She turned her attention to Director Thomas. "Director Thomas, I haven't been feeling well lately. Could I request the office next door?"
Director Thomas paused, and instantly, everyone in the room looked at Gillian.
That office belonged to the department director—it was Gillian's private space. She was just highly approachable and often worked out in the bullpen with everyone else.
Hailey assumed the office was empty.
Chloe had been scowling the entire time. Hailey had stolen her fellowship spot, and now she was parading around trying to steal someone's office.
She was close friends with Gillian and couldn't hold back anymore. "That's Director Jordan's office."
At this, Hailey looked embarrassed. She bit her lip, appearing entirely innocent. "Oh, I thought no one used it... I'm so sorry."
