I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 5

The woman's wrist was so thin and fragile it felt like it could snap with a gentle twist. There was hardly an ounce of fat on her.

The man's eyebrows furrowed imperceptibly.

He seemed to genuinely dislike her like this, finding her increasingly dull and lifeless.

Feeling the burning heat of his palm, Gillian's heart trembled as she looked back at him.

She met his icy stare head-on. "What are you pretending for? Throwing a tantrum because you're mad that I'm with Hailey?"

In his eyes, her physical illness was just an act. When someone didn't love you, even if you hung yourself, they'd think you were just playing a game.

"York..." Gillian was simply too exhausted. Staring at him, she only felt incredibly powerless.

She took a deep breath. "I'm not that childish. Let go."

"Hah!" York released her hand. "You are Hailey's doctor now. You need to keep a close eye on her pregnancy."

The moment he let go, Gillian lost her balance. The whole world spun around her, her mind reeled, and her limbs turned to jelly as she tipped forward.

She fell squarely against York's chest. The man's chest was hard, broad, and equally warm—a solid, safe harbor, just not hers.

"Throwing yourself at me?" York looked down and pushed her away. "And you say you aren't mad that I went public with Hailey."

"Hailey's condition is special and requires meticulous care. Tell me exactly what she can and cannot do right now, and what she can and cannot eat."

Gillian smiled bitterly and instinctively touched her own stomach, her heart feeling like it was being sliced open. "You really care that much about her and the baby in her stomach?"

"What else?" York replied. "Once you tell me, I'll let you go rest."

After a brief pause, he added, "Hailey's matters can't be delayed."
