I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 365

Alistair’s threat made Arthur absolutely furious.

Terrified the kids would hear them, he practically exhaled steam from his nostrils.

"You play dirty."

Arthur spun around and stormed off. Alistair hummed a smug little tune. The moment he looked at Zoe, his expression morphed into a shamelessly fawning smile, his wrinkles bunching up so tightly they could trap a fly.

"Don't worry, sweetheart. Your godfather is just tagging along. I promise I won't get in the way of you and Garrett. Oh, look at my precious Lily! Come give Alistair a big hug!"

Alistair laid on the charm so thick that Sylvia and her husband could only exchange helpless glances. They couldn't really blame him; their Zoe was simply too lovable.

Lily stared at Alistair curiously. She recognized this grandfather figure too.

"Professor Layne and Arthur look the exact same age. Why is he called Senior Kendall, and you're not?"

Alistair froze for a solid minute, his mouth opening and closing as he struggled to invent an explanation. He tried to put on a stern face, but fearing he'd scare Lily, he awkwardly cleared his throat to gloss over it.

"It's just a title, sweetie. You see, 'Professor' is a very cool job, but 'Senior' just means he's extremely old and wrinkly."

Lily tilted her head, giving Alistair a highly suspicious look.

"Is that true?"

Alistair nodded emphatically. "Yes, absolutely."

Zoe's lips twitched as she listened, and Garrett had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing out loud.

The sound of rolling wheels echoed from the inner hall. Everyone turned to see Arthur marching out, dragging a massive suitcase behind him.

"Dad, what is this?"

Mr. Kendall Sr. was thoroughly confused.

Garrett was equally shocked.

Arthur scoffed. "I want to go to Miami and sunbathe on the beach, too."

Sylvia couldn't help but try to intervene.

"Dad, you're getting older. We worry about you traveling so far."

"Lily always knows how to handle them."

Garrett sat next to Zoe, feeling a massive headache coming on.

Bringing Alistair was a necessary tactical move, but Arthur crashing the trip had turned everything into a circus.

Thankfully, Lily kept them occupied with the game so they wouldn't bicker. Zoe simply smiled and watched.

After a few hours in the air, they landed and headed straight to the luxury hotel Garrett had booked.

They had reserved three rooms for the men, but Alistair vehemently refused. He declared he had spent enough of his life living alone, utterly despised loneliness, and stared Arthur down until the man agreed to share a room.

Arthur scowled, initially refusing, but Alistair threatened him: "If you don't keep an eye on me, aren't you afraid I'll snatch your honorary granddaughter right out from under you?"

Arthur glared back. "Try anything funny, old man, and I'll dismantle you bone by bone."

Ultimately, Arthur and Alistair shared one room, Garrett took his own, and Zoe shared the final suite with Lily.

"Why didn't you just share a room with your grandson? I'm used to my peace and quiet. You are seriously annoying."

Arthur was still grumbling when Alistair shot him a pointed look.
