He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 57

Ottilie's state of mind *had* been terrible that day.

Because the night before had been Yorath's birthday, and she had offered herself to him as a gift.

Yorath had been excited, keeping her awake the entire night.

She hadn't slept a wink, her whole body ached, and her legs trembled so badly it hurt just to walk.

Yorath had actually tried to call in sick for her.

But she hadn't wanted to delay the production schedule or give people a reason to accuse her of acting like a diva, so she forced herself to go despite the exhaustion.

After the incident, everyone around her had turned into a poisoned blade aimed at her throat.

Buried under a mountain of fabricated "ironclad" evidence, she hadn't stood a chance.

"I simply hadn't slept well the night before," Ottilie countered evenly. "And from that, Kendrick can diagnose me with ulterior motives? I guess doctors are obsolete now, seeing as you can just glance at someone and instantly declare them clinically insane."

Shawn scowled. "You've been crazy since you were a kid! You used to run away from home and stay out all night. You committed a horrific atrocity, and you're still trying to lie your way out of it?"

Huxley leaned forward. "Mr. Fordham, this woman is pure poison. To give my sister and everyone else here peace of mind, I demand she be taken into custody until the truth of what happened that day is fully uncovered."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the room.

"We absolutely cannot let a menace like her back into the industry."

"It's terrifying. What director would ever hire her? Anyone who touches her ends up dead!"

Just as the unrest peaked, Yorath's voice cut through the noise, cool and unhurried.

"Bring the Vice Director in."

The room plunged into an eerie silence.
