1:00 AM.
Nyssa lay in a hospital bed, her finger wrapped in gauze, frowning constantly from the pain.
Only Yorath and the rest of his inner circle remained in the room.
Nyssa carefully studied Yorath's expression, but as usual, his face was an unreadable mask.
"Yorath, I honestly had no idea about Director Langley's movie beforehand. When he suddenly announced me as the lead in front of all those people, I had no choice but to play along. I know that script was tailor-made for Ms. Sewell. Give it some time, and I'll clarify everything to the media."
Yorath replied evenly, "The role is yours."
"Are you sure that's okay? She's definitely going to be upset."
Jevon chimed in, "You saved her life! If she can't even give up one stupid role, she's barely human! You were almost horribly disfigured!"
Nyssa smiled faintly, acting completely unfazed. "Ms. Sewell is Yorath's person. Even if it costs me my life, I would do everything to keep her safe. My affection for you, Yorath, naturally extends to her."
The room of men fell silent at that.
Jevon shot Yorath a look before turning his face away, refusing to speak.
Elian Zouch scowled darkly.
Nobody said a word.
Nyssa let out a soft groan.
"What is it?" The men jumped to their feet in unison.
"My hand hurts."
Most of the acid had been caught by her dress, but a few drops had still splashed onto her finger.
Thankfully, they had treated it immediately on the scene; otherwise, it would have been catastrophic.
Jevon looked at Yorath and said, "You should stay here and look after her, Yorath. She's incredibly fragile right now and shouldn't be left alone."
Elian nodded. "I'm heading to the police station to check on the investigation. We're going to make whoever orchestrated this pay a massive price."
The hospital door suddenly swung open.
