Yvonne said, "Ms. Sewell, please drink this and rest."
"I'm not hungry." Ottilie stood up to leave.
Yvonne followed her, carrying the restorative health broth.
When Ottilie reached her door, she flashed Yvonne a smile and promptly shut it in her face.
She paced around the room.
Picking up her phone, she emailed Lachlan Schmidt.
{Tomorrow night at the Echoes of Antiquity wrap party, I'll announce that I'm signing with you.}
Lachlan didn't reply; he was probably busy and hadn't checked his phone.
Ottilie collapsed onto the bed, managed to catch some sleep, but was jolted awake by a nightmare.
Checking her phone, she saw it was 3:30 AM.
Feeling thirsty, she headed out to grab a bottle of water.
As she opened the door, she saw Yvonne still standing there, holding a bowl of the restorative health broth.
Ottilie froze for a second, then took a step back and closed the door.
She lay back in bed, unable to fall asleep again.
The next morning, when Ottilie opened the door, Yvonne was still standing guard.
Yorath's coercion had always been silent, yet the pressure was suffocating.
Ottilie took the broth and downed it in two gulps.
It was warm, fresh, and perfectly palatable.
She couldn't even guess how many times that bowl had been replaced throughout the night.
Yvonne gave her a respectful nod and walked away with the tray.
Her posture was perfectly straight, her steps light; she didn't show the slightest trace of fatigue after standing there all night.
When Ottilie went to the dining room, breakfast was already set on the table.
Cream of Chicken and Rice Soup, along with a few appetizing, refreshing side salads.
Yvonne stood crisply by the table, a white towel draped over her arm.
She leaned in and said, "Ms. Sewell, Mr. Fordham mentioned that your teeth are still healing and you can't have hard foods for now. He specifically ordered these dishes for you."
She pulled out a chair for Ottilie.
Ottilie sat down, picked up her silverware, and took a bite.
It tasted exactly like the meals Yorath used to make.
"Where is Mr. Fordham?"
"He headed to The Empyrean last night."
