Third Person’s POV
True to his word, Caldwell didn’t make things difficult for her. The conversation that day ended there, as if it had never happened.
Seraphina went back to her usual foutine, guiding her students through their competition project while teaching her classes in the Healing Department.
Once the project was finished and submitted, she finally had a chance to relax.
Around this time, Seraphina heard that Caldwell’s aunt, Abigail, had joined the Craig Group at Edwin’s arrangement.
Since Abigail owned a sizable logistics company in Alaska, Mortimer put her in charge of the Craig Group’s/ overseas shipping routes.
Caldwell, though, stayed out of the Craig Group’s operations and kept teaching in the Healing Department.
During this stretch, Caldwell took a month off and went back to Alaska.
For the entire month, neither of them reached out to the other. They didn’t even exchange a single message.
Ever since she’d turned Caldwell down, Seraphina had felt guilty enough to be embarrassed around him. Every time they met, she couldn’t help feeling awkward.
Since Caldwell never reached out first, she didn’t feel right doing it herself either.
The two of them settled back into the way things had been before he’d come back.
Meanwhile, at the Craig Group.
“Alpha, we found something.” Beta Tade didn’t bother knocking. He pushed the CEO’s office door open and walked straight in.
Mortimer looked up from the documents in his hands. “Go on.”
Beta Tade handed him the report. “We looked into Abigail’s Viking Logistics Group in Alaska. Turns out Viking’s had a long-running partnership with Canyon Technology Group in North America.”
“Canyon?” Mortimer’s eyes lifted slightly. “The company that’s been trying to get a foothold in our pack’s shipping routes?”
“That’s the one.” Tade nodded. “We also found out the man behind Canyon is Tobias Nornwald. Caldwell’s > stepfather.”
Mortimer went quiet. Inside him, the black wolf went still, breath slowing, senses sharpening.
“Anything off about how Canyon runs its business?”
“On paper, everything’s clean, all legal. But we found one of Canyon’s longtime partners runs a fireworks business as a front, and deals arms on the side.”
Tade’s expression turned serious. “And that company’s run by Tobias too.”
Mortimer’s face shifted, his eyes going cold. “Has Abigail been involved with that company’s operations?”

Tade shook his head. “No evidence of that so far.”
“And Caldwell?”
“Other than four years at Shadowfang Academy, he’s spent this whole time in Alaska working as a doctor. Nothing suspicious. Lives like an ordinary werewolf.
“One more thing. A few days ago, Canyon underwent a major shake-up, replacing many of its executives. Tobias left North America three days ago. His whereabouts are unknown.”
Mortimer nodded. After a moment of silence, he asked, “Is Caldwell still in Alaska?”.
“He came back to pack territory today.”
“All right. Understood.”
After Tade left, Mortimer sat on the sofa without a word for a long while before finally getting up and heading out.
He knocked on the door of another office on the same floor.
Abigail, busy at her desk, looked up. When she saw him, she smiled. “Mortimer.”
Mortimer walked in and sat down on the sofa, getting straight to the point.
“Did you know Tobias is the one behind Canyon Technology Group?”
Abigail blinked, then smiled. “I knew. Why?”
“Did you know one of Canyon’s companies is secretly dealing arms?”
If they were dealing arms, there was almost certainly more going on underneath.
Abigail’s brow furrowed instantly. “Arms dealing? Are you sure?”
Mortimer said nothing, just watched her, his black wolf eyes carrying a heavy, restrained weight.
After a while, Abigail sighed. “Mortimer, I was furious at Edwin for what happened to Caldwell’s father. But Caldwell’s twenty-six now. It’s been almost thirty years. That anger faded a long time ago. I know the Blade pack’s rule: we never touch illegal business. Tobias is my mate, but I genuinely had no idea he was dealing arms.”
She said it earnestly, not a trace of guilt on her face.
