Chapter 267
Third Person’s POV
Hearing the name “Toasty,” Mortimer instinctively glanced in Seraphina’s direction-only to see a cat sprawled on Dash, kicking its legs vigorously. It meowed as it ran toward Caldwell, moving both left paws together in an oddly synchronized gait.
Caldwell crouched down, scooped the cat into his arms, and scratched behind its ears. “Don’t cause trouble, okay? You only get this meal because of me, so you need to behave, understand?”
Toasty didn’t understand, but it answered with excited meows, overflowing with affection.
Mortimer, however, caught the implication in Caldwell’s words and let out an irritated laugh.
But when he realized that Caldwell’s cat was also named “Toasty,” his expression grew even darker-the implication was painfully obvious.
*Caldwell, did you use Sera’s nickname for this cat?” Mortimer asked coldly, suppressed anger flashing in his eyes.
Caldwell paused his petting, looked up to meet Mortimer’s gaze, and smiled, “You think it’s a coincidence too, right? I only found out her nickname was the same after I named the cat.”
As he spoke, he cast a meaningful glance at Seraphina, who was still processing what was going on between the two. “This shows that Sera and I share a connection; don’t you think, Sera?”
Seraphina sensed the tension between the two, and when Caldwell suddenly asked her, she instinctively nodded. “Well… yeah.”
The corners of Caldwell’s mouth lifted in a subtle, provocative smile as he calmly met Mortimer’s dangerous glare.
Thomasina sensed the tension between them and tried to smooth things over. “That was a nickname Sera’s father gave her when she was little. She got embarrassed by it as she grew up and hasn’t let us call her that for a long time.”
She stepped between them, having no idea when or how they had suddenly become family. But right now, she didn’t have time to figure it out. Her only concern was that the two young werewolves were going to tear each other apart right here.
She looked at Caldwell and said, “Caldwell, weren’t you supposed to be helping Garfield? He’s drowning in the kitchen. Go back inside and help him.”
Caldwell didn’t argue, nodding in agreement.
Having won this round, he looked openly pleased, while Mortimer’s expression had darkened considerably.
“Since you’re a guest here, I’ll go help Garfield. Stay here and sit tight.”
As Mortimer spoke, he rolled up his sleeves and headed toward the kitchen, unable to hide his dominant presence.
Caldwell, however, stepped sideways to block his path, a cold smile on his lips. “You’re about to sever your mating bond, and you still don’t understand boundaries?”
He looked at Mortimer’s stern face and added with a smile, “Mortimer, let’s talk this out. I know you have
issues with me, but don’t make things difficult for Sera in front of her.”
Mortimer was left speechless by that remark. At that moment, he suddenly felt like enrolling in two classes-“Persuasive Speaking 101,” and “How to Leave Someone Speechless.”
His cousin, Caldwell, had mastered both skills quite well.
Then, Dash waddled over and sat beside Mortimer.
Mortimer patted its head. “Good boy. I’ll take you out to play.”
The deliberate emphasis in his voice carried the same meaning as before.
Seraphina quickly nodded, eager for him to leave-the pheromones and hostility coming off the two of them made her feel like they could start fighting at any moment.
After Mortimer left, Seraphina gave Caldwell a helpless look. “Can’t you two just talk things out?” After all, they were cousins.
Caldwell shook his head with a wry smile, then suddenly looked at her, his expression turning serious. “If I ever had a conflict with him, whose side would you take?”
