Chapter 260
Third Person’s PQV
Prunella listened to his distracted murmuring, a flicker of surprise crossing her face. Looks like you?”
Elias glanced at Prunella and chose not to hide anything. He relayed every word Velda had said to him.
Then he took Prunella’s hand, looking helpless. “I swear I’ve never had another woman. We have a mating bond. If I’d really betrayed you, how could your wolf not have sensed it?”
Over the years, Elias had spent nearly all his time by Prunella’s side. Even during his years running the Craig Group, there had never been a single rumor about him.
As he said, a werewolf’s loyalty to their mate and their instinct for sensing betrayal ran bone deep.
Unless he had somehow deceived her wolf for over twenty years straight, there was no way she could have missed it entirely.
Prunella shot him a sideways glance, though she naturally trusted her mate.
“Then could it be…” Prunella hesitated. “Your father really had a son out there somewhere?”
Elias froze.
Hard as it was to accept, if the face and the surname both matched, maybe his father really had left this mess behind him.
“Should we… ask him?” Prunella suggested quietly.
Elias looked uneasy. “That’s not a good idea. He’s got a short fuse these days. What if it’s not true? We’d probably make him so angry he’d shift on the spot.”
“But what if it is true?” Prunella admitted she was curious herself.
Someone carrying Craig’s blood had suddenly appeared. If he had no interest in the family, then there was nothing to worry about. But if he was planning to make a move…
The Craig Group had run smoothly under Mortimer for years. If someone showed up to fight for the inheritance, it wouldn’t just hurt the company. It would hurt the Blade pack too.
Plenty of powerful families had torn their packs apart fighting over succession. It was already rare that the Blade pack had stayed peaceful this long.
Prunella’s worry was exactly what Elias feared.
Fighting over money and power was bad enough on its own. Some families had even turned on their own blood over it.
That was the last thing Elias wanted to see happen.
“Why don’t I ask velda to take me to see him first? I’ll check things out without making a fuss. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, and he only happens to resemble me.”
Elias thought it over. “Let me ask Velda what’s actually going on first.”
But before the two of them could make a move, Velda had already convinced Edwin to go and “see someone.”
“Grandpa, I heard Seraphina is teaching in the Healing Department at Shadowfang Academy now. You should donate a research building there for her. We could name it Sera Hall. Wouldn’t that be a great gift for her?”
Edwin agreed at once. “Sure. Consider it the wedding gift. That fool Mortimer already signed the agreement with her anyway.”
“Exactly.”

Velda’s eyes brightened. She slipped her arm through Edwin’s. “Then you have to come to the building dedication in person. You should be the one to present the gift.”
“Sure. I’ll approve it personally.
Meanwhile, Seraphina and Mortimer had finished transferring all the properties at the title company.
While signing the papers, Seraphina noticed the staff looking at her differently. After all, transferring more than half the real estate under the head of the Craig Group’s name in one sitting was no small matter in the business world.
Once they left there, Mortimer looked at her and suggested anyway, “I’ll drive you back to school.”

“No need.” Her answer was just as he’d expected.
“I drove myself. I can’t just leave my car here,” Seraphina added.
She’d taken more than half his fortune, after all. It had softened her a little. Her tone with him was not that harsh now.
Mortimer gave a bitter smile, a flicker of loneliness crossing his dark eyes. “All right. Be careful on the road.”
“Mm.” Seraphina turned and walked toward her car.
Mortimer stood there, watching her back for a long moment before he finally looked away, his chest heavy.
George had barely driven Mortimer back to the Craig Group headquarters when someone suddenly ran in front of the car before he could pull into Mortimer’s reserved parking space. George instinctively swore under his breath.
“Damn it, you got a death wish? I should’ve just floored it and run you over, you idiot!”
Mortimer frowned slightly in the back seat. “What’s going on?”
“Mr. Craig, someone just ran in front of the car-”
Before George could finish, someone slammed a fist against the window beside Mortimer.
“Mortimer! Mortimer!”
George got out fast, wrenched the man aside, and recognized him immediately. Connor, Vivian’s father. His expression turned to ice. “What do you think you’re doing?”
If the Davis family hadn’t kept covering for Vivian all those years, things would never have come to this between Mortimer and Seraphina. And now Connor actually dared to show up at the company?
George wasn’t just a driver. He was a retired fighter. He clamped a hand on Connor’s shoulder and held him firmly in place. Connor struggled, but couldn’t break free.
By the time Mortimer stepped out of the car, Connor was thrashing even harder. “Mortimer! Vivian’s been arrested!”
