“Goodbye.”

She waved at Mortimer, then turned and walked toward the parking lot.

Mortimer remained standing there, staring at Seraphina’s retreating figure. A bitter smile slowly formed on his lips.

She was genuinely happy to end their relationship.

He suddenly remembered how happy she had been when she first formed their bond.

Even though he had never given her a proper bonding ceremony.

But that happiness had only lasted in the beginning.

Later, as he disappointed her time and time again and repeatedly chose Vivian over her, she smiled less and less.

Yet he had never noticed.

Or perhaps he had assumed she would forgive him easily. Even when he realized she was hurt, he had never taken the time to make things right.

He looked away from Seraphina’s retreating figure, got into his car and returned to the company.
