Chapter 238
Third Person’s POV
Vivian was trembling with rage, her wolf clawing to break free.
But Connor’s warning-that their family’s business would go under if she crossed Mortimer again-echoed in her mind. She dug her nails into her thigh, forcing herself to swallow her anger.
When she spoke again, her voice had softened, tinged with wounded dignity and condescension. “Fine. I’m not going to argue with a receptionist like you. Mortimer personally called me just now and asked me to come. If you don’t believe me, call upstairs and ask. Keep your CEO waiting any longer, and you might be in serious trouble.”
She sounded so confident, yet so dramatically aggrieved, that the receptionist hesitated.
After all, everyone in the company knew how outrageously indulgent Mortimer had once been toward Vivian.
With the previous lessons in mind, the receptionist said tentatively, “Since Alpha Mortimer personally asked you to come, would you mind giving him a quick call? The moment his secretary confirms, I’ll open the gate for you.”
Vivian’s face stiffened.
She was still blocked on everything. How was she supposed to call Mortimer?
“M-My phone died,” she blurted, raising her voice. “I was using GPS on the way here, and it ran out of battery.”
She tightened her grip on her purse, her eyes darting nervously as she snapped, “Are you seriously going to keep wasting my time? I already told you Mortimer asked me to come. If this project gets delayed because of you, can you afford the consequences?”
Her righteous indignation-teetering on outright hysteria-actually rattled the receptionist.
The receptionist took a deep breath. Terrified of angering the ruthless Alpha and ruining her career, she reluctantly said, Please wait a moment. I’ll verify it with Alpha Mortimer’s secretary.”
The call connected almost immediately.
She spoke quietly for a few moments.
Then something said on the other end caused her expression to change.
She glanced at Vivian before replying quietly, “Understood.”
す
After hanging up, she picked up a visitor access badge under Vivian’s haughty gaze and swiped open the security gate.
“Miss Davis, Alpha Mortimer is waiting for you in his office on the top floor. This way, please.”
Vivian lifted her chin triumphantly, savoring the receptionist’s sudden deference. Then she snorted and pointed at her. “I won’t forget this.” With that, she strode toward the elevators.
Behind her, the receptionist stood rooted to the spot, pale and visibly shaken.
She couldn’t understand why Mortimer still treated Vivian so well, given what her mother had done to Dash.
Vivian rode the elevator straight to the top floor.
Outside the CEO’s office, she pulled out her phone and checked the bright red handprint on her face. Seraphina hadn’t held back in the slightest, and since Vivian had come straight here, the marks were still glaringly obvious.
She then glanced down at her wrist. The swelling Caldwell had left hadn’t gone down either.
The memory of his icy expression sent a shiver through her. Yet, despite the lingering fear, she felt a smug sense of satisfaction

she finally had dirt on Seraphina.
“Seraphina, you’re finished,” she said to herself.
Vivian gently pushed open the office door but didn’t step inside. Instead, she stood pitifully in the doorway and softly called, ”
Mortimer.”
Mortimer looked up from the documents. The moment he saw her, his brows knit together.
Then his gaze fell on the vivid handprint across her face. His frown deepened, and a cold darkness settled over his eyes.
Noticing where he was looking, Vivian secretly rejoiced, mistaking his anger for an Alpha’s instinctive protectiveness.
She let her shoulders slump and lowered her head, looking meek and vulnerable, as though she had already buckled under his overwhelming Alpha aura. She hoped that instinctive display of submission would soften the notoriously ruthless man before
her.
She walked up to his desk.
“Mortimer…” she said, tears instantly spilling down her cheeks.
Instead of comforting her, Mortimer fixed his gaze on the handprint across her cheek. “My wife did that?” he asked, his face ice
-cold.
Vivian failed to notice the way he’d referred to Seraphina. Seeing the dark look on his face, she was secretly delighted, and her tears flowed even more freely.
She stepped closer, lifted the wrist Caldwell had swollen, and pressed the hand to her bruised cheek. “I don’t blame her,” she choked out, looking weak. “My mom abused her dog. As Luna, she had every right to hit me.”
She gazed at Mortimer through tear-filled eyes, carefully casting herself as the innocent victim. “Mortimer, it doesn’t even hurt. I… I just feel so wronged. If taking it out on me helps… then go ahead. Do what you want with me.”
Caldwell’s cold, intimidating face flashed through her mind, and she shuddered involuntarily. This time, the fear on her face wasn’t entirely an act. “But her friend-that foreign Alpha who was having dinner with her at that fancy restaurant-he actually hit me for Seraphina on campus. How could he do that? I’m so scared…”
She extended her badly swollen wrist toward him. The bruising looked severe enough to be alarming.
“Besides, that man is always around Seraphina. She had her reasons to slap me, and I can move past that. But what right does some scheming outsider have to lay his hands on me?” She broke into sobs.
