Chapter 152

Third Person’s POV

But L.A. real estate was notoriously cutthroat. On her salary as a healer alone, there was zero chance she could afford a down

payment in the short term.

Still, she could always ask her parents for a loan.

Seraphina ran the numbers in her head, determined to cut off any remaining excuse to rely on Mortimer.

Mortimer watched her fall silent, his elite senses telling him that her defense was finally starting to crack.

Deciding to push his advantage, he leaned in, his voice dropping into a smooth, persuasive baritone. “Look, per our agreement, once the bond is officially dissolved, I’m giving you several fully furnished luxury condos in the best zip codes in LA. But until then, for Dash’s own safety, why don’t you guys just crash at the estate? What do you think?”

Dissolve the mating bond?

Wilmot, who had been quietly driving, white-knuckled the steering wheel. His eyebrows did a violent twitch.

“Wait, you guys are seriously getting a divorce?”

Mortimer cut his eyes over. Even through the rearview mirror, he could taste the sudden, unfiltered wave of excitement and pure amusement radiating off his friend.

His eyes narrowed dangerously, shooting a lethal glare at the driver’s seat.

“Mind your own dumpster fire, Wilmot. Stay out of my business.”

But the wicked, gossip-hungry smirk on Wilmot’s face was already spreading, practically spilling out of his car.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t afraid of Mortimer’s power; he just desperately wanted this arrogant bastard to drown in the exact same miserable swamp he was stuck in.

Why the hell did he have to deal with Trista dragging him to the Pack Council for an emergency split when he hadn’t even done anything wrong, while Mortimer got away with acting like a toxic menace for three years without Seraphina completely pulling the plug? 1

In this hellhole of a separation crisis, he desperately needed a bro to suffer with him.

Mortimer completely ignored Wilmot’s silent cheering.

He turned his head back, his intense, almost obsessive gaze locking back onto Seraphina, trying to sound like the most rational man on earth. “You don’t have to worry. As an Alpha, I don’t go back on my word. Every single term I promised you in that buyout, I will deliver.”

Seraphina knew exactly what he was talking about-he meant his promise to sign the papers and give her back her freedom in a month.

But moving back into that suffocating manor?

Her brows instantly knitted into a tight, heavy knot.

Just as Mortimer thought he had won the negotiation and she was about to give in, her voice cut through the cabin-completely flat, icy, and totally decisive. “No thanks. The estate is way too far from my medical center. The commute is a nightmare. Besides, Dash is too small right now to have the energy to destroy any furniture.”

There was only one month left until their contract expired. She had zero interest in generating any new, messy complications with Mortimer over a stray puppy she’d happened to rescue.

She had fought tooth and nail to get out of that golden cage; she wasn’t about to willingly crawl back in.

Moreover-

“Mortimer, don’t you absolutely loathe dogs?”

Seraphina raised her head, her clear eyes staring straight through hirn, dropping the one question he couldn’t dodge.

The simple sentence landed like a textbook left hook, completely stalling the proud Alpha out.

Mortimer’s breathing hitched.

He admitted it–he hated dogs.

Honestly, as a werewolf with extreme germaphobia, he equally despised any low-order animal that shed fur and tracked dirt into his clean perimeter.

But damn it, why couldn’t this stubborn woman see through the loophole?

Every single ridiculous excuse he was throwing out was just a desperate attempt to extend their timeline, to find a way to renew their lease on this mating!

Mortimer’s look turned incredibly toxic and desperate.

He stared at her for a long, agonizing beat before forcing his lips to part. “I hate other dogs. But Dash’s status in this family is different. Moving forward… he is my brother.”

Now, it wasn’t just Seraphina who was left completely speechless in the back seat. Even the toxic, separated couple in the front row were so stunned by his absolute audacity that the entire car hit a dead silence.

Wow. It turned out that when a supreme, high-and-mighty leader completely threw away his pride and his face, he could actually become this shamelessly unhinged.

Talk about an absolute circus.

“Please, Alpha Mortimer, find your dignity and your logic on the floor and put them back in your pockets.”

“Luna Seraphina, what street are we hitting?”

Wilmot suddenly cranked up his volume, shouting to break the suffocating awkwardness in the back, directly asking her for the destination.

God knows he couldn’t handle watching his best friend’s delusional face in the rearview mirror for another second.

It was Seraphina’s first time hearing Wilmot address her as “Luna Seraphina.”

She blinked, a little startled by the sudden shift in respect, but to shut down Mortimer’s psychotic family-tree rants, she didn’t hesitate for a second. She rattled off her apartment address clearly and loudly to the front seat.
