Ex-Mate Wants Me Back (Seraphina and Mortimer) novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109

Third Person’s PQV

“A company like Craig Group? Reputation is the only currency they have,” Vivian sneered. “When Edwin allowed Seraphina to mate with Mortimer, he was buying into her ‘elite wolf’ branding. If that brand shatters-if she becomes a negligent killer-the Blade pack won’t tolerate her as their Luna.”

“Since Mortimer was desperate enough to go public with her identity, her scandal is now his scandal,” Lillian added, a predatory glint in her eyes. “To cut their losses, they’ll have to terminate the mating. And then…”

Lilian and Vivian shared a look-a sharp, jagged smile. They could already see Seraphina being exiled from the territory.

“Once Vivian sits in that Luna chair, the whole Davis line levels up,” Lillian whispered, her greed practically vibrating in the room. “We won’t just be ‘those omegas’ on the fringe anymore.”

In the rigid hierarchy of the pack, an omega jumping into an Alpha’s bed wasn’t just a mating-it was a biological promotion.

Lillian could already smell the pheromones of power.

Connor was the only one still anchored to reality.

“But Mortimer didn’t mark Vivian for years. Why would he start now? If we push this too hard and backfire… an Alpha like that won’t keep a liability around. We’d lose his protection entirely.”

Lillian let out a sharp, dismissive huff, stroking Vivian’s hair.

“You don’t get it. For the last few years, Mortimer was building an empire. He didn’t want a mate; he wanted an assistant in a wedding dress. Seraphina was just a placeholder because of her bloodline and Bauer’s backing.”

Lillian was high on her own logic now.

“If Vivian’s pheromones hadn’t been fluctuating back then, that cold bitch wouldn’t have stood a chance. Once the mating is dead, Mortimer will realize that a soft, submissive omega is the only thing that can actually soothe an Alpha’s jagged wolf soul.”

“Besides,” Lillian lowered her voice to a lethal whisper, “Vivian is a pure omega. For an Alpha looking for a second bond, she’s a pristine prize. The Council will be desperate to keep her.”

Connor looked at the manic gleam in his daughter’s eyes and went quiet.

The hunger for power was a hell of a drug.

The next morning, a call from the Shadowfang Healing Center shattered the silence.

The hospital claimed to have found the truth behind Rolf’s blood clot.

“That fast?” Connor asked, hanging up the phone. “Usually these audits take days.”

Vivian let out a sharp laugh. Her pheromones were a toxic mix of syrupy sweetness and jagged anxiety.

“It’s a bluff. They’ll never find the trace. Bauer is just trying to force a settlement to save his star pupil.”

“He’s going to use his rank to bully us,” Vivian continued. “But you can’t buckle, Dad. We have to bury her. I want her medical license burned in the street.”

“Vivian,” Connor asked, “how are you so sure they won’t find anything?”

“Because-”

Vivian bit back the rest of the sentence. “Because the facts are on our side. She signed the orders. She did the surgery. The lead surgeon is legally responsible for the patient’s blood safety. Period.”

She was counting on the fact that the inducing agent she’d slipped into the IV was colorless, odorless, and designed to metabolize out of the system within 48 hours. Even the best gear shouldn’t have caught it.

“Fine,” Connor said. “We don’t back down. Not even for Bauer.”

“I’m ready for him,” Vivian said, touching the diamond brooch at her collar.

“There’s a high-gain mic in here. If Bauer tries to use his status to cover for her, I’ll leak the recording to the press before we even leave the building.”

Shadowfang Healing Center. Internal Review Room. Seraphina was staring at the data.

With the resources Mortimer had dumped into the case, the audit had gone deeper than Vivian could have ever imagined.

“It was her,” Seraphina said, her voice a flat, arctic chill.

Vivian had used her own brother’s life as a chip in a game of revenge. In the Pack Code, that kind of betrayal of kin was a capital offense.

Professor Bauer let out a long, heavy sigh. “Sera, there’s something you need to know. This report didn’t come from our labs. It came from the core bio-division at Craig Group. Your mate personally ran the forensic sweep.”

“Mortimer?” Seraphina’s hand tightened on the file.

Why?

He’d been the one defending her for years. Why would he suddenly step in and dismantle her trap with his own hands?

She narrowed her eyes, her gold pupils flickering with a confusion she couldn’t quite suppress.
