Don't Mess with the Girl with Candy novel Chapter 1578

In the classroom.

As soon as Janet sat down, her desk mate leaned over and whispered in her ear, "The university president actually stepped in to clarify those rumors Kian made about you."

"The university president?" Janet was genuinely surprised. Such a trivial matter had caught the president's attention?

"Of course," her desk mate nodded furiously like a chicken pecking at grain. "You're Mr. Steele's girlfriend, and Mr. Steele is Goddess Juniper's brother, and Mr. Schwartz is Goddess's fiancé... Does the president dare offend Goddess? Or does he dare offend Mr. Schwartz?"

He couldn't afford to offend either, so he had to step in and fix it.

Janet pursed her lips, then asked, "What did they say?"

"Kian got three days of administrative detention and a major demerit from the school."

Her desk mate beamed with excitement. "And then a bunch of his girlfriends stormed his dorm and smashed all his stuff to pieces."

"With a major demerit on his record, he's going to have a terrible time finding a job after graduation."

He wanted to be a lawyer?

Who would ever hire a lawyer with a stained record?

"That's good," Janet nodded, then suddenly looked up, her cheeks turning bright red. "Who said Mr. Steele is my boyfriend?"

"Ah, he's not?" Her desk mate looked confused for a second, then chuckled. "Come on, we're practically best friends, stop pretending."

Janet choked on her words. She wanted to explain but didn't even know how to begin.

The day of the birthday.

Juniper had invited quite a few people.

But they were all close friends—her siblings, Luella, Lorelei, and Kurt.

Everyone wanted to just relax and have fun, so they didn't invite any of the elders.

Luella arrived dragging a small suitcase, clinking and clattering with a pile of makeup.

She gave Janet an exquisite, adorable makeover.

"Juniper, you really didn't have to do all this," Janet had never had such an elaborate birthday before.

Her family used to be poor, so there wasn't much spare cash.

Her mom would just buy her a small cake and cook a hearty meal.

"She's shy, stop teasing her," Juniper walked over and fastened the necklace around Janet's neck.

"Fine, I'll go tease the one with thick skin," Luella's smile grew even brighter. She crossed her arms and sauntered over to Melvin. "Melvin, I heard you've been chasing Janet for a while now. Why haven't you caught her yet?"

"Luella!"

Melvin, who was taking a sip of water, nearly spat it out.

"Keep your voice down."

Jimmie walked over with a glass of juice, naturally wrapping an arm around Luella's waist, adopting a stern tone. "Show some respect."

"???"

Melvin was momentarily annoyed.

"Janet looks incredibly pretty today," Luella took a sip of her juice, her eyes narrowing into a mischievous smile. "It's such a great day, you better hurry up and make your move."

"I will, Luella."

Just as Melvin finished speaking, Juniper brought the birthday girl, Janet, out.
