DAVIEN

“You’re my hero.”
Clearly, Elora didn’t understand the situation. Although she was a smart girl, she was still too young to comprehend the shift in the atmosphere fully.
Or maybe she just didn’t care as she walked up to me and hugged me. But that wasn’t the case for Alpha King Raiden. Heck, that wasn’t the case for Luna Queen Aurelia, who was just reminded of a past that nearly claimed her current life.
Perhaps his mate’s discomfort got to him, or he was purely acting on his own emotions. Alpha King Raiden lashed out, “You have just a minute to explain yourself, Jarrett.”
The tension in the guest apartment’s living room grew palpably thick. Clearly, things had escalated unexpectedly, and the duel of Alphas was now the least of Jarrett’s concerns.
“I would never reach out to the witches in the human world, King Raiden. I know better than to do that after what happened the last time.” Jarrett quickly uttered those words, trying desperately to convince the King and Queen, as he could sense that his life was hanging in the balance.
“When will you stop lying?” My mom countered, her voice barely a whisper as she raised her eyes to look at her supposed mate.
“Cynthia,” Jarrett called warningly.
But something seemed to have shifted within my mom. I didn’t know what, but she was suddenly determined to tear her mate apart, even though she would be hurting herself in the process. Something about the way my mom’s teary eyes flickered to Katie made it known that her newfound determination had something to do with my mate.
“I have confessions to make, My King.” My mom chimed shakily as her eyes cut to Queen Aurelia. “And I have evidence to back my confessions.”
“Cynthia!” Jarrett warned once again, gritting as he balled his fists.
He didn’t have to speak for Jarrett’s body to begin to tremble. He obviously tried to resist, but the fact that the King’s rage was directed towards him made resisting difficult.
“You should be concerned about how you will prove to me and the entire council that you are not a traitor!” King Raiden snapped as he grabbed Jarrett’s collar, yanking him off the ground without breaking a sweat. “Who becomes the neck Alpha of this pack should be the least of your worries!”
With his feet dangling in the air and neck on the line, Jarrett couldn’t speak even if he wanted to because he was too close to a man who could snap his neck within a second.
I was enjoying this. As a matter of fact, I was enjoying everything about this, but a part of me feared that the battle of Alphas that I had been anticipating was off the table. I mean, Jarrett’s crimes had automatically made him a royal criminal who would be punished as soon as the royal family gathered enough evidence.
“I want to kill him myself!” Dolf seethed, hating the fact that our chance to avenge my younger version and my late father was getting slimmer by the minute.
I wanted that too! I yearned to duel with Jarrett, but this was bigger than me and my wants right now. To look on the bright side, this unexpected turn might save my soul from getting any darker.
Within a second, the King called on his warriors who came with him from Dark Moon Pack, and just like that, Jarrett got locked up in a cell in his own pack, waiting to be judged tomorrow upon the arrival of all members of the council and leaders of the realm.
