Chapter 624-2

“Your tea is getting cold.”

Alexander followed my gaze to the cup. “Right.”

He walked back to his side of the bed, picked it up, and finished what was left in one gulp. He placed the empty cup back on the bedside table before climbing into bed.

I waited until he was settled before getting in beside him.

“Come here.” I reached for him and gently pulled his head toward me, resting it against my

chest.

He didn’t resist. Instead, he settled into my embrace almost immediately, his body relaxing as he closed his eyes.

I smiled faintly and ran my fingers through his hair, slowly caressing his head as I played with

the strands.

He looked tired. After everything that had happened today, I supposed we both were.

I continued running my fingers through his hair for a while before finally speaking.

“I think we should try to communicate more,” I said as I thought about how easily misunderstandings could be avoided if only we talked.

Alexander didn’t open his eyes.

“In case there’s a next time, can we just talk first?” I asked quietly.

He gave a low hum in response.

I smiled.

That was probably all the agreement I was going to get from him tonight.

My fingers continued moving gently through his hair as I held him close. It wasn’t long before his breathing became slower and more even.

He had fallen asleep.

By the following morning, I had already started packing. My things were spread across the bed as I moved between the wardrobe and the open suitcase, deciding what I needed to take

and what could stay behind. Since I would be leaving the next day, I didn’t want to leave everything until the last minute.

By the time I finished, I closed the suitcase and looked around the room. That was one less thing to worry about.

I left the room and made my way outside. I could hear voices before I reached the field, and when I got closer, I saw that the pack had gathered there. Alexander was standing in front of them, addressing everyone. I slowed down as I approached and listened for a moment before he eventually finished speaking.

The wolves began dispersing almost immediately, and Alexander noticed me as he stepped away from the group.

“Done packing?” he asked.

I nodded. “Yes.”

He glanced at me briefly before falling into step beside me, and we began taking a walk around the house.

“Did you hear from Helen today?”

He shook his head. “No… Not yet.”

I nodded slowly. “I wish I didn’t have to travel tomorrow.”

Alexander looked at me.

“I know I need to go, but part of me feels guilty about leaving right now,” I said.

“You shouldn’t feel guilty,” Alexander said. “Even if you stay, you can’t help the situation anyway,” he added.

Heavy silence followed.

I looked ahead. I knew what he meant, but the words still landed harder than he probably intended.

Alexander seemed to realize it almost immediately. “That came out wrong,” he said. “I didn’t

mean-”

“It’s fine,” I interrupted casually. “I know what you meant.”

He studied my face for a moment, probably making sure I really was fine before looking ahead again.

Chapter 624 2

We continued walking for a few more steps before Alexander stopped and reached into his pocket, then pulled out a small card. He held it out to me, and I looked at it before taking it

om him. There was a name and a phone number printed on it.

hat is this?” I asked.

My trusted contact in Silver Hollow.”

looked up at him, waiting for more explanation.
