I looked up at him and asked, “Yes?”

“There is someone here asking to see Alpha Alexander. He says it is very important.”

I took a sip of water before setting my glass down. “Tell him Alpha Alexander isn’t here. He can come back tomorrow or call him on the phone.”

The man hesitated. “I already told him the Alpha is away, Luna.”

I frowned slightly. “Then what is the problem?”

“He said he can’t just go back. He said he needs to speak with the Alpha,” the staff member said.

Before I could say anything else, he added, “He also came with a woman and a little girl. I think they’re his family.”

I exhaled quietly. That changed things. I wasn’t particularly worried, but if someone had brought his family all the way here and was refusing to leave without speaking to Alexander, then it was probably worth hearing him out.

“Alright. Tell him to wait in the sitting room. I’ll come and speak with him,” I said.

“Yes, Luna.”

He bowed and left. I immediately had to suspend my lunch… It could wait.

I picked up my glass and took another sip of water before pushing my chair back. I wasn’t expecting anything particularly serious, but I was curious enough to find out what had brought someone to the pack house with his wife and daughter, insisting on speaking with the Alpha.

I left the dining area and headed toward the sitting room. The moment I stepped inside, I recognized the man standing near the couch.

He noticed me almost immediately and straightened. “Luna.”

“Good afternoon,” I greeted.

I gestured toward the couch. “Please, sit.”

He sat down, and I took the seat opposite him. There was a brief pause before he cleared his throat.

“My name is Ambrose.”

I nodded. “I know who you are.”

He seemed slightly surprised by that, so I added casually, “You’re the project supervisor.”

Ambrose nodded. “I came with my family to see Alpha Alexander about something urgent, but I was told he isn’t here.”

I looked around for the woman and child, but I couldn’t see them. I chose not to ask about them yet.

“He isn’t.” I settled back against the couch. “He’s out of town, and he might not be back until late.”

Ambrose glanced briefly toward the doorway before looking back at me. “I tried to reach him on the phone, but I haven’t been able to.”

Alexander wouldn’t take a call when he’s in a meeting unless it’s from his Beta or me. And I wasn’t in the mood to call him over something I wasn’t even sure was that urgent.

I nodded slowly. “If it’s urgent, you can tell me what happened. And I’ll see what I can do for you in the meantime.”

He looked down for a moment, then toward where his wife and daughter were probably waiting outside.

When he looked back at me, there was something different in his expression. He seemed to be weighing his options carefully.

Ambrose remained quiet for a few seconds, as though he was still deciding how much he could safely tell me. I waited without interrupting him.

Whatever had brought him here seemed important enough that he had been willing to come all the way to the pack house with his wife and daughter, even without knowing whether Alexander would be here.

Finally, he let out a slow breath.

“I came because I’m afraid my family’s lives might be in danger.”

I straightened slightly.

“Your family’s?”

He nodded.

“There are some powerful people on the eastern border who are coming after me. I don’t know exactly what they’re planning, but I have reason to believe I’m no longer safe.”

I remained quiet, allowing him to continue.

“I exposed some fraudulent dealings involving them and brought the information to Alpha Alexander. I thought that once he knew what they were doing, the matter would be dealt with properly. I don’t think it’s a secret anymore,” he said.

He paused and glanced toward the doorway.

“I believe they suspect that I was the one who gave the information to the Alpha.”

I already knew exactly who he was talking about.

Vince and the people working with him.

But Ambrose didn’t know that I was familiar with the situation. As far as he was concerned, he was simply explaining to Alexander’s Luna why he had suddenly appeared at the pack house with his family.

I kept my expression neutral.

“And you think they’ll come after your family?”

“I don’t know that they will,” he admitted. “But I can’t take the chance. They’re all I have.”

His hands tightened together as he looked down at them.

“My wife and daughter were staying in town, and I don’t feel comfortable leaving them there

anymore.

These aren’t ordinary people we’re dealing with. They have influence, connections, and enough power to make things difficult for anyone who gets in their way.”

He looked back at me.

“I don’t want to wait until something happens before I take my family somewhere safe.”
