After a while, Drew's call finally came through, and Jason, albeit reluctantly, started the car.
Half an hour later, when Jason pulled up at the office, the partners were already there, and he quickly slipped into work mode.
Having worked with Jason for so many years, Drew noticed something was off and had a pretty good idea of what it was. After sealing the deal with the partners, Drew suggested, "Boss, maybe it's time to talk to Ms. Estrella?"
Jason glanced up, "Estrella probably already knows why." He sighed deeply, "I'll handle it."
If there was no future for them, it was better not to complicate things. Some truths, even if she knew, wouldn't make her feel better—just less guilty, giving him a slight sense of peace.
Given the situation, he'd rather shoulder the discomfort himself than let Estrella suffer.
There were still things he needed to discuss with her, but now wasn't the right time. Coming back to Ravenwood was actually for this reason.
Noticing Jason's nonchalance, Drew said, "Boss, even if you two can't be together, it's better to clear the air. You don't want Ms. Estrella resenting you."
"Estrella won't hate me," Jason said confidently.
Indeed, Estrella didn't hate him, which is why their last two encounters were so composed. She had moved on, not even asking for a reason, just accepting everything as it was.
Estrella seemed devoid of any hard feelings, and Jason felt even less right about disturbing her peace. Anything he did would just seem unnecessary.
Seeing Jason's clarity, Drew didn't press further and left with the signed agreement.
Two years ago, the moment Jason resigned from Nelson International, Drew immediately followed him, even bringing his family along later.
The office door closed gently behind him, and Jason looked up, taking a deep breath, then rubbed his temples.
Reaching this point pained him deeply, how could he not feel reluctant?
After meditating for a while, all he could think of were Estrella and Isaac's faces.
Over the next few days, Jason discreetly visited them a few times but never made his presence known.
That afternoon, right after a meeting, Estrella's phone rang. It was Grayson.
"Grayson," Estrella answered.
On the other end, Grayson said, "We're throwing a welcome-back party for Jason tonight. Estrella, you should come by and bring Isaac along. Angel can look after him."
As Estrella walked, she glanced through the documents in her hand, "I'm out of town. I probably won't make it back in time. You guys go ahead, I'll treat next time."
Grayson asked, "Avoiding Jason? Don't want to see him?"
Estrella chuckled, "Grayson, do I seem like that kind of person? Besides, Jason and I have already bumped into each other twice. There's no need for me to avoid anyone. I'm genuinely out of town."
Estrella wasn't lying. She had landed from a flight at nine in the morning and had just finished a meeting.
With that, Grayson had to let it go, "Alright, we'll catch up when you're back."
"Sure," Estrella replied and hung up.
Grayson had wanted to say more, but it wasn't the right place over the phone.
That evening, their gathering was called off, but the close friends still met up.
