Estrella had hit the nail on the head. With a sigh, Cole admitted, “Erin and Tori are teaming up again. Since Jesse’s involved, I decided to step back from this competition. Letting it go once isn’t a big deal, but what about next time?”
Letting go of the project was tough for Cole, especially since Erik and Bryce had just tied the knot. He was really looking out for Erik.
Hearing this, Estrella chuckled and said, “It’s no biggie, Dad. Leave it to me.”
So, the next morning, after catching up with Erik, Estrella headed straight to Lamont Corporation.
When Erin heard Estrella was coming over, he wrapped up his meeting early and headed back to his office.
Opening the door, he found Estrella sitting in front of a chessboard. With a smile, he asked, “What brings you here?”
Estrella looked up, “Mr. Lamont, this game is quite the puzzle, isn’t it?”
There was more behind her words.
Sitting opposite her, Erin asked with a chuckle, “What makes it so complex?”
Estrella, moving chess pieces haphazardly, said, “Dorvold Group, Nelson International, the Suttons, and the Ledford family. Mr. Lamont, your choice of allies could use some work.”
Choosing to side with the Manning family for just one project wasn’t the smartest move.
Watching Estrella’s chaotic moves, Erin smirked, “And what would you do in my shoes?”
Locking eyes with Erin, Estrella invaded his territory on the board before sharing her thoughts and intentions.
Twenty minutes later, as she was leaving Lamont Corporation, Erin personally saw her out. Estrella was as confident as ever.
That evening, when she got home, Autumn and Isaac were already video calling Jason.
Isaac, buzzing with excitement, told Jason, “Dad, Mom’s home. Mom’s back.”
After catching Jason up, Isaac turned to Estrella, “Mom, Dad wants to talk.”
Isaac’s excitement washed away all of Estrella’s fatigue. She kissed Isaac on the forehead and sat next to him.
With Estrella back, Jason’s smile brightened even more.
The three of them continued their video call with Jason in the living room, while Cole paced back and forth, his steps quickening as their laughter filled the room.
Why should they act like a family when his marriage with Jason wasn’t even fixed yet, leaving him feeling like the odd one out?
Later that night, after Estrella had put Isaac to bed, Jason video-called her again, expressing how much he missed her.
Estrella casually chatted with him, eventually falling asleep mid-conversation.
Jason, working miles away, watched Estrella sleep on the bed, his brows furrowing with concern for her well-being.
After a few days apart, Jason felt like it had been ages since he’d seen Estrella and Isaac.
In the early hours, after wrapping up a meeting, Jason saw Estrella suddenly sit up in bed, her forehead and neck covered in sweat, all visible through the video.
“Estrella, did you have a nightmare?”
With her hands propping her up and breathing heavily, Estrella initially thought Jason was right beside her, until she noticed her phone was still on, pulling her back to reality.
Touching her forehead, she said, “Yeah, had a dream.”
