30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 300

The next morning, while Estrella was swamped at the law firm, Erik, who had been MIA for days, finally reappeared and asked her out for lunch.

With Jason tied up in a business dinner that evening, Estrella clocked out of work and brought Isaac along for the meal.

Seated across from each other, Estrella poured some tea and casually asked, "Where've you been these past few days?"

Erik sneaked a glance at her and muttered, "End of the year, office is crazy busy."

Estrella didn't suspect anything. After pouring the tea, she turned her attention to Isaac.

Isaac, despite his young age, was remarkably mature. Whenever Estrella took him out, he'd quietly eat his meal and then dive into his book, hardly ever interrupting unless absolutely necessary. If someone caught his gaze, he'd flash them a goofy grin.

As Isaac tucked into his meal, Estrella and Erik chatted away like old times until Bryce stormed in, throwing Erik off his game.

Bryce plopped down next to Erik, who initially didn't seem bothered, continuing their conversation as usual until he realized Erik was avoiding eye contact, subtly shifting away to maintain distance.

Suddenly, Jason also seemed less at ease.

Across the table, Estrella sensed something was off, especially recalling their recent disappearance, and grew increasingly suspicious.

Being a lawyer, she scrutinized them and ventured, "You two are acting strange. Is there something I don't know?"

Erik hastily denied, "No, nothing at all, Estrella. You're overthinking it."

But the way Erik denied it so quickly and firmly left no doubt in Estrella's mind that something was up.

Seeing Erik's outright denial, Bryce chimed in, "Estrella, don't worry about it. It's nothing."

Yet, the more they insisted nothing was wrong, the more Estrella was convinced there was. The dynamic had shifted, making future gatherings awkward.

Pondering their recent behavior, Estrella probed further, "Did something happen between you two at the bar the other night after too many drinks?"

Her intuition as a woman told her Erik's reaction was telling.

Estrella had no intention of stirring the pot, but knowing Erik's background and temperament, she decided to lay it all out.

The accuracy of her guess took Erik by surprise, his eyes widening as he stared back at Estrella.

Proud yet concerned, Estrella didn't need further confirmation to know she was right.

Turning to Bryce, who scratched his head sheepishly, he admitted, "Estrella, I messed up. Drank too much."
