Chapter 90
All the while the others had been in the room, Meadow had kept her fear tucked tightly beneath her ribs, holding it still, holding it
silent.
But the second the door closed behind Levi and Amber, the dam burst.
Her face crumpled.
Tears spilled down her cheeks, silent, trembling, unstoppable.
Ethan didn’t hesitate.
He shifted from his wheelchair onto the bed despite the strain it caused, gathering her gently into his arms. She melted against him, burying her face into the warmth of his chest, her fingers gripping the fabric of his shirt like she was afraid he might vanish.
He stroked her hair with slow, soothing movements.
“It’s okay… I’ve got you,” he murmured, kissing her forehead. “You’re safe.”
But Meadow shook her head.
He pulled back slightly so he could see her eyes. “Has this happened to you before?” he asked, voice quiet but firm.
She shook her head.
And that, more than anything, was why she cried.
This was new.
This was terrifying.
This meant her condition had changed… or worsened. She feared what it meant for her future. For her role as Luna. For her
marriage. For herself.
Ethan held her tighter, his heart aching at the helplessness in her eyes. He wanted to protect her from everything, from danger, from pain, from her own mind, but he couldn’t shield her from what she didn’t understand.
And neither could he ignore his duties.
He remained with her until her breathing steadied. But eventually, reality pressed in. Joseph and Levi would meet the witness soon. Ethan had declared earlier that he would assume full Alpha responsibilities. If he backed down now, he would look unstable,
indecisive, weak.
And Meadow knew it.

Chapter 90
“I will ask Levi to work with Joseph when the witness arrives,” Ethan said, brushing strands of hair from her face. “So you won’t be
alone. I can stay here with you.”
Meadow immediately shook her head, fiercely and without hesitation.
She pulled back enough to sign with sharp, determined movements:
You’re Alpha; you should do it. You cannot make a declaration and go back on your words. I will be fine. Call Veronica to stay with
me if you’re worried.
Her seriousness stunned him.
Even now, shaking, fragile, exhausted, she refused to let fear make her a burden. She refused to be his reason for abandoning duty She refused to become a weakness others could exploit.
Ethan wanted to argue.
Every instinct in him screamed to stay.
But he saw the resolve in her eyes.
He exhaled slowly. “If you’re sure.”
She nodded.
Reluctantly, he obliged her.
He called for Veronica and waited until she arrived. He insisted she stay with Meadow in their bedroom; he refused to make Meadow walk after the ordeal she had endured.
Then he summoned Beatrix and gave strict orders:
“Ensure staff remain at Meadow’s beck and call. Anything she needs, anything she wants, immediately.”
Beatrix bowed deeply. “Yes, Alpha.”
Victoria entered quietly, her expression written with worry and sympathy. She rushed to Meadow’s side the moment she saw her friend lying pale on the bed.
Ethan fixed her with a stern look.
“Do not overwhelm her with gossip, Victoria. I can see the glint in your eyes, you have a lot to say. My wife just suffered a terrible episode. I don’t need you adding to it.”
Victoria’s mouth snapped shut.

Chapter 90
She nodded obediently.
“I won’t say anything unnecessary.”
Ethan leaned forward, cupped Meadow’s face, and kissed her deeply, slow, tender, full of fear and love and promise.
“I won’t be long, darling,” he whispered, brushing his thumb over her cheek before wheeling himself away.
The moment the door closed, Victoria squealed out loud.
She looked at Meadow’s rings.
Then at her flushed cheeks.
Then at the bed they shared.
And screamed again.
“It’s serious,” she gasped, rushing to sit next to Meadow. “Oh my goddess, it’s serious!”
Meadow nodded faintly, wiping her eyes.
“Wow, Meadow, you are so lucky!” Victoria said breathlessly. “Everyone is talking about it. They’re saying you’ll be Luna, like
officially Luna!”
Meadow nodded again, confirming the rumour.
Victoria shot to her feet and did a little hop, overwhelmed with excitement. “I knew it! I told you! You two were always meant,”
She stopped abruptly.
Then her face shifted, growing tense.
“How does Amber feel about it?” she asked in a low voice. “Because she wasn’t very pleasant during tea that day. Honestly, she said horrible things to you, and that woman does not tolerate weakness. If she’s suddenly supporting you, there’s a catch.”
Meadow lifted her hands.
It was Amber’s idea.
Victoria froze.
Her excitement vanished like a flame blown out.
“Amber… suggested it?” she whispered. “Voluntarily?”

She sat slowly, eyes narrowing with suspicion.
There had to be a reason.
A hidden plan.
A game Meadow wasn’t seeing.
Meadow saw the doubt forming in her friend’s expression and reached out, gently patting her shoulder.
It isn’t what you think, she signed. Nothing close to that. She trusts me, because of my outburst during that tea
Victoria didn’t look convinced.
Not even a little.
She leaned in closer, lowering her voice to a whisper. “Meadow… women like Amber never change overnight. Something is off.”
Meadow’s heart tightened, because she already knew Amber was dying.
But she said nothing.
For now, she simply leaned back against the pillows, grateful for her friend’s presence…
And terrified of what tomorrow might bring.
