Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 86

Chapter 86

Meadow and Ethan cuddled on the bed to watch the television.

It was still strange to her, this simple, ordinary thing. Ethan had refused to watch television for years. His room had never housed

one until Meadow came into his life. Yet tonight, he was the one who switched it on, the soft glow filling the room and painting

gentle shadows across the walls.

Meadow lifted her head slightly from his chest and looked at him with curiosity. He noticed the questioning look in her eyes and/

chuckled softly.

“I do not want you walking on eggshells around me anymore, Meadow,” he said quietly. “You did it for over three months, and it has

to stop. We are equals now. This is our room, not mine alone. I want you to be free and do as you like. Do not care about my,

feelings, Meadow, just live and be free. I will really like that.”

Her lips curved into a soft smile. Without a word, she shifted closer and placed her head against his bare chest, listening to the

steady rhythm of his heart. His arm wrapped around her instinctively. His body relaxed under her touch, the tension he often

carried melting away.

He had planned to make love to her that night.

But not in haste.

Not in hunger.

He wanted to take his time with her, slow, tender, unhurried, like everything else that had begun to matter since Meadow came into

his world.

One month passed.

Their long-awaited vacation was still delayed due to the modifications going on at the cabin. Ethan refused to explain exactly what

he was changing, and Meadow, though curious, chose not to pry. She trusted him. Whatever he was doing, she knew it came from a

place of love.

During that month, Amber began to engage Meadow gradually in Luna duties.

At first, Meadow had been terrified.

She had expected the work to overwhelm her, expected to fail where so many would watch closely for any mistake. But to her

surprise, she adjusted nicely. With Rashel by her side to help with communication, things became easier than she had ever imagined.

The work of a Luna was not all ceremony and command.

There were records to read. Documents to sign. Reports to review. Supplies to audit. Endless lists of small but essential details that

kept the pack alive and stable.

As` Luna-in-training, Meadow had to ensure the health centres were functioning properly. She inspected medicine storage, checked

sanitation records, and quietly observed how doctors and healers handled emergencies.

She supervised food storage in case the pack ever fell on hard times, grains, preserved meat, vegetables, emergency supplies stored

away for famine or war.

She reviewed schools and training grounds, ensuring children were safe, educated, and growing under proper guidance.

She was also expected to visit different districts at various times of the year. She had not yet begun that part of her role, but she

was preparing for it steadily.

Amber trained her with deliberate care but never for too long.

She always found an excuse to send Meadow back to Ethan.

So he would not be lonely.

Meadow and Ethan continued their exercises diligently.

They stretched together.

They practised balance.

They laughed when one of them lost footing.

They struggled.

They improved.

And through it all, Meadow made everything seem easy, normal, effortless.

Because of her, Ethan became more confident.

More relaxed.

The fact that he was crippled no longer consumed his thoughts. He no longer measured himself by what he could not do. Instead, he

measured himself by how freely he could love, lead, and live.

He took her out often.

Not as an Alpha showing off his Luna.

But as a man proud to walk beside his wife.

The pack members slowly grew used to Meadow being their new Luna. Though Amber had not officially handed over yet, it was

obvious to everyone that Meadow would soon take her place.

People who once avoided her now greeted her.

Those who once whispered now bowed their heads.

Respect came easily when power hovered within reach.

Meadow was not fooled.

But she remained humble.

“The cabin is almost ready,” Ethan told Meadow while they dressed for breakfast one morning. “Elaine is happy that we will soon be

visiting.”

Meadow paused, adjusting her blouse. She wondered again what kind of modification he was making to the cabin. In her heart, she already loved the place exactly as it was, but she kept her thoughts to herself.

I can’t wait to go back there, she signed with a bright smile.

He pulled her gently onto his lap, his hands settling at her waist.

“I can’t wait too,” he said before kissing her deeply.

The cabin had once been his sanctuary.

Until Cynthia had tainted it with betrayal.

But Meadow had brought light back into his life, repairing what Cynthia and the world had broken in him.

They had not confessed the love they felt for each other yet.

Neither had spoken the word aloud.

But it lived in their glances.

It echoed in every touch.

It lingered in the silence between them.

They went down for breakfast.

Amber was not at the table.

Again.

Chapter 86

It had become frequent that she was always late now. For someone who despised tardiness with a passion, it was strange. Ethan had pleaded with her more than once to seek proper medical help, but she always brushed him off, saying the doctor had told her to

rest.

She eventually joined them, her smile present but faint.

Breakfast began.

The food was consumed quickly. Everyone had obligations waiting. The atmosphere carried a subtle restlessness, as if something

unseen was approaching.

During the meal, Joseph’s phone rang.

He glanced at the screen and excused himself briefly as he answered the call.

His face changed as he listened.

First surprise.

Then focus.

Then something like cautious excitement.

When he ended the call, his posture had shifted completely.

Ethan noticed.

But he said nothing.

Joseph returned to his seat, unable to contain the energy simmering inside him.

“Guess what,” he said aloud.

Everyone at the table looked up.

“Someone who claims to remember what happened the night Father was killed has come forward,” Joseph announced. “He is ready

to speak.”

Silence struck the table like lightning.

“What?” Amber breathed.

Levi straightened.

Meadow’s hand froze around her cup.

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

“Why didn’t he come forward all this while?” Ethan asked cautiously. “How do we know he isn’t a fraud looking for some kind of

reward?”

“We will find out when we see him,” Joseph replied. “I’m sceptical too, but… hopeful.”

For the first time in years, the ghost of their father’s death stirred again, not as a memory, but as a question.

Answers might finally be within reach.

They were eager.

All of them.

To meet the stranger.

And uncover the truth that had buried itself in blood and silence.
