Chapter 80
It was finally time for dinner, and they had to leave their haven by the lake and return to the mansion where duty waited.
The light had begun to soften, spilling gold and amber across the retreating water as the sun slowly dipped lower. The lake, which had held their laughter and their silences alike, now shimmered with farewell. Meadow lingered for a moment at the water’s edge before turning back, as though trying to press the peace she had found into her bones for just a little longer.
The lake had given her something fragile and precious, ease.
Laughter without fear.
Touch without hesitation.
Love without doubt.
Ethan noticed her pause immediately.
He always did now.
His fingers tightened gently around hers, grounding her without words.
“We’ll come back,” he murmured.
She looked up at him, searching his face for certainty.
Then she nodded, trusting him.
But what she didn’t know, what her gentle smile could not see, was that Ethan had already planned something that would change
the course of their night.
Something he had hidden carefully.
Something meant only for her.
Earlier, while Meadow had been resting beneath a tree at the lake, her head pillowed against bundled fabric and sunlight drowsing her senses, he had quietly sent Adam on an errand, one that required discretion, speed, and absolute silence. Ethan had given him exact specifications and an address only a handful of people knew.
Tonight was meant to be different.
Tonight was meant to be memorable.
The couple entered the mansion hand in hand and headed straight for the dining room. The mansion, with all its towering ceilings and ancestral gravity, felt strangely less intimidating tonight, as though Meadow had taken the weight out of its walls simply by

existing within them.
They arrived on time and took their seats, a quiet ripple of attention passing through the table as they settled beside one another.
Meadow signed a greeting to everyone.
Rashel translated smoothly.
Everyone answered.
And for the first time since his return from Ceenas, Ethan truly saw it, the shift.
Amber was indeed kind to Meadow.
Not calculated kindness.
Not measured tolerance.
Real warmth.
The kind that softened the eyes before it touched the mouth. The kind that did not weigh words before offering them. And suddenly everything his mother had told him earlier made sense. Meadow had not earned Amber’s acceptance through obedience.
She had earned it through fire disguised as gentleness.
Through dignity that did not bow.
Through a heart strong enough to stand alone.
Ethan understood then why his mother wanted Meadow to succeed her.
She had the heart of a true Luna.
The woman had won Amber’s impossible heart in a matter of days.
That alone was unheard of.
“How was your day?” Luna Amber asked Meadow calmly as she cut into her steak.
Meadow smiled at her.
“It was beautiful. The lake is beautiful,” she signed eagerly.
Joy glowed in every movement of her hands.
Amber’s gaze flicked briefly to Ethan.

Chapter 80
“I’m glad you finally got some sun,” she said. “You vanish into those walls far too often.”
Ethan only smiled faintly.
Then Amber added casually, “I was thinking the two of you should go on a vacation, Ethan.”
The words struck closer to truth than she knew.
Ethan had already thought about it.
Not just a vacation.
An escape.
He had planned to ask Keith to remove everything of Cynthia’s from the cabin, the clothes, the furniture, the scent, the memories that had kept him chained to grief. There was no point holding on to ghosts now that he had chosen life again.
He was ready to create something new.
“I will figure out the right destination for Meadow and me,” he said smoothly.
Then, without hesitation, he lifted Meadow’s hand and kissed it in full view of everyone at the table.
It wasn’t for display.
It was declaration.
Meadow blushed instantly at the affection Ethan showed her so freely. Her cheeks warmed, her lashes lowered, and her fingers curled instinctively in his.
Joseph stared at them in pure disbelief.
This was not the brother he had known for seven years.
This was not the broken Alpha who hid behind silence and bitterness.
This was a man choosing joy.
And it made Joseph giddy.
Ashley watched everything.
Every smile.
Every kiss.

Every stolen glance.
She hated what she was seeing, but she reined in her jealousy with iron control and forced a polite smile at the couple. No one at
the table would have guessed that venom stirred quietly beneath her composure.
The dinner went quickly without event.
Too quickly for Ethan.
Too slowly for Ashley.
Then, as plates were cleared and the room relaxed into softer conversation, Ethan felt the familiar pull of the link brush against his
mind.
“Alpha, I could not get that stuff you requested,” Adam linked him. “I will try and leave early tomorrow, so I can go and search for
the specs you requested.”
Ethan’s heart sank just slightly.
He masked it instantly.
He had wanted tonight to be sealed with that surprise. He had wanted Meadow to see it before sleep stole them both. The symbol. The promise. The unspoken commitment he had arranged in secret.
For a moment, disappointment flickered through him.
Then he stilled it.
“Leave it,” he linked Adam back calmly. “I will do it myself tomorrow.”
The connection closed.
Some surprises, he realised, were worth waiting for.
Ethan and Meadow returned to their room not long after.
They freshened up quietly, moving around one another with the easy closeness that had settled between them so naturally. The air was calm. Warm. Charged with something soft and expectant.
No pressure.
No fear.
Only awareness.
When they finally slipped beneath the sheets, the night received them both.
