Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

:

The door to Luna Amber’s office was enormous, tall, carved from dark mahogany, ancient in design. It loomed over Meadow like a living

thing, breathing authority and warning.

Her hands trembled.

For a moment, she considered turning back.

But that wasn’t an option anymore.

Not in this house.

Not under this roof.

She drew in a shaky breath, gathered what little courage she had left, and knocked softly.

“Enter,” came the Luna’s cold voice.

Meadow slipped inside.

Luna Amber sat behind a polished desk, surrounded by stacks of documents. Her posture was perfect, stiff, regal. She didn’t look up. She didn’t acknowledge Meadow’s presence beyond a single, dismissive command:

“Sit.”

Meadow obeyed, lowering herself onto the chair opposite the desk, back straight, hands folded tightly in her lap.

Amber finished signing a paper, placed it aside, and finally lifted her gaze, sharp, unfeeling, assessing.

“I see you have met your husband.”

The words stung. Husband. A title Ethan hadn’t spoken. A role he hadn’t accepted. A bond he hadn’t acknowledged.

Luna Amber continued, voice smooth and void of empathy.

“I called you here to lay down the rules. This marriage is a gift to someone like you. Considering no one in their right mind would want a mute, you should be grateful.”

Meadow’s throat tightened, eyes dropping to the desk. Humiliation burned her skin.

The Luna leaned back slightly, folding her hands.

“As you’ve seen, my son is not in good shape. I married you into this family so he could have someone to care for him Someone to bathe him. Dress him. Attend to his needs. You will always be at his beck and call.”

Each word was a blow.

“You are not to leave his side. You will accompany him to every formal function and represent him as his wife.”

Amber paused, studying Meadow’s devastated expression with a faint hint of irritation.

“No matter how sad, upset, or overwhelmed you feel, you will smile in public. You will never complain. You will never share anything that happens in this mansion with anyone outside it.”

Her lips curved into a cruel half-smile.

“No one needs your opinion anyway… so keep it to yourself. In fact, your muteness is an advantage. Learn to appreciate it.”

Meadow’s breath became shallow. Her hands tightened painfully on her dress.

“And of course,” Luna Amber continued calmly, “you will give Ethan children.”

Meadow’s heart stopped.

Her mind screamed.

Amber went on without hesitation.

“He doesn’t have to touch you. I have arranged that part. When the time comes, I will take you to the clinic for artificial insemination.”

Meadow’s mouth fell open in shock, but no sound, no breath, no sigh, no gasp, managed to escape.

Her chest tightened until it hurt.

Her wolf curled into a terrified ball inside her.

Amber’s smile widened, satisfied by the fear she saw in Meadow’s eyes.

“I know Ethan is handsome,” she said, her tone almost mocking. “Do not try to make him fall in love with you. It will not work Better, healthier women tried and failed. Take this as a warning so you do not embarrass yourself.”

She picked up another document as if the conversation bored her.

“I also have your signed contract… so you should not dare to run away. You know the extent of the McCloud Pack’s reach. Do not make me search for you. You would not survive the consequences. Am I clear?”

Meadow nodded slowly, unable to feel her limbs.

Amber’s eyes sharpened.

“Did you bring your phone?”

Meadow hesitated. Only a second. But Amber noticed.

“Hand it over.”

Something inside Meadow broke then, not loudly, not dramatically, but in a quiet, devastating snap. Her hands shook as she surrendered her only connection to the outside world.

The moment the phone touched the Luna’s palm, Meadow’s tears began to fall, slow, steady, unstoppable.

Amber slipped the phone into a drawer and locked it.

“I will hold on to this. You will have supervised access only, and only with my permission. All your messages will be monitored. If you are seen using sign language without an interpreter present, I will confiscate the privilege entirely.”

Meadow swallowed a sob.

Her voice was already gone.

Now her hands were being taken from her too.

“Your friend Victoria,” the Luna added, leaning forward, “forget about her. She talks too much. I don’t want rumours or gossip about this family spreading. You will not contact her again.”

Meadow’s breath caught painfully in her lungs.

“In fact,” Amber said, her voice turning colder, “forget everyone. From today, all that matters is Ethan. If you’re bored, read a book. Or watch a movie. Your personal life is irrelevant.”

Meadow sunk deeper into the chair, tears dripping onto her lap.

Amber continued briskly, “Breakfast is at eight, lunch at two, dinner at seven. All meals are taken in the dining room. Ethan likes punctuality. Make sure he is washed, dressed, and ready on time.”

The Luna closed her file.

“You are dismissed.”

Meadow stood up on shaking legs.

Opened the door with trembling hands.

And walked out, her world collapsing with every step.

Tonight wasn’t her wedding night.

It was the night her freedom ended.
