Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Keith reached for her before answering. He pulled her close, needing the warmth of her against him more than he wanted to admit.

He kissed her, not with hunger, not with ease, but with a quiet desperation that said too much. Elaine’s hands rested on his arms,

steadying him without even trying. She always did that. She always made him remember he was not just a soldier, not just a loyal

friend, not just the man Whitewood might call when everything had gone to hell. He was her husband too.

When he pulled back, he did not let her go.

“When we married, I was done with pack matters and fighting. That was why we moved out here,” Keith started.

Elaine stopped him before he could finish. She shook her head, her expression firm even through her worry. She knew where he was

going with it, or at least she thought she did.

“You must return to your duties once Alpha Ethan is okay. Besides, we can’t leave him alone; he needs someone trustworthy. He

needs his best friend,” Elaine said.

Keith smiled faintly, but the smile did not reach deep enough to touch the fear. He was grateful that she understood. He was grateful she did not make him choose between the peace they had built and the loyalty he owed Ethan. Many women would have resented it. Many would have asked why the pack always came first when they had tried to step away from it. But Elaine was not like that. She understood bonds. She understood honour. She understood that some duties could be put down for a time but never

truly buried.

Still, she did not know what troubled him. It was not only returning to duty. It was not only standing beside Ethan again. It was not only the possibility that his quiet life had ended. It was the fact that war was no longer something waiting in the distance. It had already stepped through Whitewood’s gates.

Keith did not want to keep anything from her. Not this. Not something that could affect her life, her safety, her future. So he held her hand and looked into her eyes. He saw her worry sharpen at once, because Elaine knew him well enough to understand that he only looked at her like that when the truth was going to hurt.

“I want to tell you something, and you have to promise me that you won’t panic,” Keith told her.

Elaine nodded. Her face grew tense, but she did not pull away. There was worry in her eyes, yes, but also that stubborn bravery he loved in her. She was afraid, but she would not let fear shame her into silence.

“The pack was attacked today by Sebastien Kaminski of River pack with the aid of Cynthia Davids and some of our renegade

warriors,” Keith said.

Elaine gasped. Her hand tightened in his, and for a moment, the colour seemed to drain from her face. But she controlled herself quickly. She swallowed the sound back, forced her breathing steady, and waited. That made Keith love her and ache for her at the

same time.

“They injured Luna Amber, Beta Levi and Ashley Gastov,” Keith added.

Chapter 193

Elaine went still. Not quiet. Still. There was a difference. Quiet was not speaking. Still was the body trying not to fall apart before the mind had caught up. Her eyes filled, but she did not interrupt him. She did not ask foolish questions. She just stood there with pain growing in her face as Whitewood became something wounded and fragile between them.

“To save their lives and ensure they get the medical care they need, Joseph had to surrender and sign the pack and everything to

Sebastien and Cynthia. The only thing is that instead of signing Ethan’s name, Joseph wrote his father’s name. It will take a while

for them to verify. They might not even want to go through the rigorous process, so we are safe for now, but on the surface,

Whitewood no longer belongs to the McClouds,” Keith told her..
