Chapter 185
Two wolves came for her while she was still in human form. Joseph tried to rush to protect her, but Sebastien’s wolf knocked him
out of the way before he could reach her. Rex hit the ground hard, but he did not stay there. He got up immediately.
Even Sebastien seemed shocked at Rex’s strength and speed. The attackers had not expected Joseph to hold the way he had. They
had not expected him and his smaller team to kill as many wolves as they already had. They had underestimated him.
Sebastien knew it too. Joseph could feel the shift in the man’s tactics even before it fully showed. If the fight kept dragging like this,
there was a chance Sebastien’s side would lose more than he could afford. Reinforcements were not coming fast enough for a clean
finish. Joseph and his remaining wolves were making every body count.
Then something changed. Cynthia linked Sebastien. Joseph could not hear the words, but he saw the reaction. A moment later he
understood why. Luna Amber was down and bleeding. Levi was unconscious and bleeding. Ashley was barely breathing. The three
family members lying broken on the ground changed the whole board at once.
Sebastien knew what Joseph knew. If they did not get help quickly, they would die. And Sebastien also knew Ashley was carrying
Joseph’s baby. Knew Amber mattered to him. Knew Levi mattered too. So he changed tactics.
He signalled his wolves to surround the remaining three fighters: Joseph, Adam, and Brian. The circle tightened again, only now it
was not the same as before. Now the threat was not only direct death in battle. Now the threat was time. Blood loss. Loved ones
dying on the ground while Joseph fought for pride.
Joseph, Adam, and Brian all felt the change. All three looked around, understanding that the enemy had moved into something worse than battle. Sebastien shifted back into human form with a smirk.
“I came for a deal, but you turned it into a fight. Sign over the pack, and you can take your loved ones to the hospital. Keep
fighting, and you all die. There is just so much three of you can do against us, and I have reinforcement coming,” Sebastien said.
Joseph knew a lie when he heard one. Or at least part of one. He did not believe every word of it. But the bodies on the ground were
real. The blood was real. Amber’s failure to heal properly was real. Levi’s unconscious body was real. Ashley’s weak breathing was
real.
He looked at them. His mother on the ground, hurt and not healing. Levi unconscious in human form. Ashley barely holding on. He
did the math in a single awful sweep. If he kept fighting, there was a real chance all three of them would die before any help came.
He remembered Levi’s voice from when he and Ethan were younger and training.
“Live to fight another day,” Levi had once told him.
He remembered Cain too.
“Surrendering does not mean you are weak. You can always return to finish the fight,” Cain had once said.
The memory hit him so hard that Rex howled.

Chapter 185
“Forgive me, Ethan,” Joseph said.
The words came out of him like grief. Because he knew Ethan would be heartbroken if he found out Joseph gave up the pack. Joseph knew that. Knew it in advance. Knew his brother would feel the wound of it deeply. But Joseph could not stand there and watch three people bleed out while he fought a losing battle for territory and pride.
So he shifted back to human form. He stood there with blood on him and defiance in his eyes and looked straight at Sebastien Cynthia stood beside Sebastien with that same awful smirk on her face.
“Not so chatty now, are we?” Cynthia asked.
Joseph ignored her completely. He kept his eyes on Sebastien because Cynthia did not matter enough to him in that moment to earn
even his fury directly. Adam and Brian’s wolves circled him protectively while he stood there human and exposed.
