Chapter 162
Keith said nothing after that. He did not want to admit the deeper truth beneath his questions, that he was scared of losing his
friend. Scared enough that every option felt like a trap.
Ethan, however, had already chosen where he stood.
“Write everything you need. Plan everything you want to do and pick a location close to the hospital in case of complications. wil shift my primary care to your friend temporarily an hour before the operation so that Dr Rosenberg will not attend to me in case of an emergency. But I would like this done in three days. Six months is a long time. The earlier I start the journey, the better. I have a pack to lead, a wife to love and a life to lead. I can’t waste any more time.”
There was finality in his voice that made it clear this was not a discussion anymore.
It was a decision.
Camila left the cabin after they finished speaking and called Dr James almost immediately. He gave her the list of items they would need and told her where to get them. Then he said he would find a location close to the hospital where the operation could be done quietly. He decided they would move to the site at night and without the ambulance light. No flash. No spectacle. No reason for anyone to notice or remember.
If they moved quietly at night, maybe no one would see.
Camila agreed.
With the revised plan, the operation would happen in two days instead of three. Faster. More urgent. Less time for second thoughts.
When she returned to her own house, she worried about the operation in a way that made everything in her body feel too tight. She hoped it would turn out well. She hoped with a desperation that almost embarrassed her because she had seen the look in Alpha Ethan’s eyes when she spoke. Not just hope. Pain. Years of it. Emotional pain held together by pride and rage and habit. Seven years of being alive but not living the way he wanted. Seven years of watching other men move through spaces he used to own naturally. Seven years of not being able to touch his life fully.
She did not want to fail him.
She had barely entered her cabin before her husband called.
Camila closed the door behind her and answered at once.
“Brad?”
The first thing she noticed was that he did not sound right. Something in his voice was tight in a way that made her heart begin to pound harder almost immediately.
“Why haven’t you called me all day?”

Chapter 162
The question itself was simple, but the way he said it told her everything she needed to know. He was not alone. He was in danger.
Somebody was there with him, close enough to hear, close enough that his words could not be trusted at face value.
Camila forced herself to sound normal.
“I am sorry, I was treating Luna.”
Then he asked the question that made her blood gu cold..
“Are you treating Alpha too? What did you do?”
She laughed on the phone, and the sound almost broke in her throat.
“I never told you I was treating Alpha. You know how grumpy the man is. He needs a physiotherapist, not a wolf therapist.”/
She tried to make it light. Casual. Mocking enough to seem genuine. But sweat had already broken across her skin, and she could feel fear pouring out of her even while she forced her voice steady.
Then came the next question.
“So you did not go to the hospital today to see Dr James?”
That frightened her in a different way. Not just for herself now. For James too.
“Yes, I went to see him. I had something to discuss with him about Luna’s anxiety. She passed out and began to scream again. But he told me not to bother and that it was normal. If she does it again, I will just quit and come home.”
By then tears were already running down her face. She was still talking, still forcing the lie through, but tears kept falling anyway. What had she gotten her family into? Herself. Brad. Dr James. Everybody attached to this terrible little line of truth she had chosen
to follow.
Then Brad spoke again, and his voice changed in a way only she would notice.
“Okay darling, thank you.”
The words carried a hidden message.
You did great.
She heard it. She understood. So she kissed him into the phone and hung up before her voice could give anything away.
Still panicking, she called Dr James immediately and told him what happened so he could prepare himself. Then she ran back to the cabin because there was no time to pretend things were still contained. If Brad was being questioned, if someone already suspected enough to monitor those calls, then the danger had moved closer than any of them planned for.
When Ethan heard what had happened, he decided at once to call Joseph to help Camila’s husband and Dr James.

Chapter 162
There was no calm in the cabin after that.
Only fear.
Only hope that they were not already too late.
Camila sat in the living room crying and shaking, and for the first time since this whole thing began, she truly understood that there might be no clean way out of it for any of them.
