Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149

Cynthia rolled her eyes before Ashley even finished speaking. Luna treatment. Again. She could not decide if Ashley really believed

her own nonsense or if she had simply lied for so long that the performance came naturally now. Cynthia wondered, not for the first

time, when Ashley would drop the act and stop pretending at a title she did not truly possess.

Still, an opportunity was an opportunity.

“Sure, have your driver come get me.”

She said it lightly, almost lazily, but she was setting a trap the moment the words left her mouth. A simple one. One Ashley would stumble into unless she was more careful than Cynthia thought she was. If Ashley really had the standing she pretended to have it she really moved around with the ease of a woman secure in the household, then sending a driver would be nothing. Natural, Easy. But Cynthia already suspected the lie had limits. She only wanted to see where those limits started showing.

Ashley did not answer immediately.

Instead she began to stammer, and Cynthia smiled to herself. There it was.

“Well, I thought we would use a cab, so it would be just us. You know how the McClouds feel about you. Joseph almost chopped my

head off the last time we went out.”

At least on that part Ashley was telling the truth. Cynthia could hear the discomfort in her. She rolled her eyes again, though this time with a little satisfaction mixed in. Ashley was rattled. Good.

“Okay, text me the venue, and I will meet you there, Luna.”

She said Luna deliberately, sweetly enough to be tolerated, sharply enough to remind Ashley that the joke was not lost on her. Ashley giggled anyway, still eager, still trying to sound pleased with herself.

When the call ended, Cynthia looked at her phone and smirked.

She knew it was only a matter of time before she would be the one laughing properly. It was only a matter of time before they all realised she had not come back empty-handed. They could sneer at her. Threaten her. Watch her. None of that changed the fact that she had returned with purpose. And purpose was always more dangerous than wounded pride.

She dressed simply before heading out. Not because she had suddenly become modest, but because she knew when to soften her edges. A plain outfit made her easier to underestimate. Easier to dismiss. Easier to forget as a threat. Let Ashley see her as another disappointed woman licking her wounds. Let Joseph think she had retreated. Let them all relax a little too soon. Cynthia preferred it

that way.

The venue Ashley texted was on the other side of town. By the time Cynthia got there, she had already decided to approach the meeting as carefully as she could. She would smile. Listen. Pull where needed. Ashley was weak in the obvious ways, but weak people could still be useful if handled correctly. And Cynthia needed information. Ethan was not someone she could reclaim through desire alone anymore, not with a mute wife in place, not with his family circling him, not with years having changed the ground

beneath all of them.

She needed facts.

She needed access.

She needed to know what kind of marriage Ethan really had now, what power Meadow actually held, what was happening in the house, who was trusted, who was watched, who was vulnerable. If Ethan was still the central Alpha, then it meant the mute tray was Luna. That much annoyed Cynthia more than she could say. Still, she did not think taking the mute out would be difficult. Noy if it came to that. But before anything could be done, Cynthia needed all the information she could’get.

She spotted Ashley at the back of the place.
