Underwater: The Silent Luna novel Chapter 131

Chapter 131

“What does that mean?” he asked aloud.

Camila turned to him, excitement warring with caution in her face.

“It means someone compelled her, Alpha, and her wolf wants out of the compulsion. She has been living under hypnosis all he

life.”

The words landed heavily.

Ethan felt the room tilt inside him.

All her life?

He looked at Meadow. She was still sitting there trying to understand why both of them looked at her like the world had just shifted. Ethan’s chest tightened with a different kind of rage now. Not the hot fast rage of battle. A colder one. A slower one. Someone did this to her. Someone made her this way. Someone caged her voice, caged her wolf, rewrote the way she could move through life, and left her to be pitied and discarded for damage they themselves caused.

“Can you find out who and why?” he asked.

The question came out harder than before. More urgent.

After hearing her voice, after seeing the truth of her mutism break through even for moments, Ethan could not go back to passive patience. He wanted answers. He wanted her voice back. He wanted the thing inside her mind named and ripped apart.

Camila answered honestly.

“It will take more sessions. I need to know at what age the compulsion was made, how many layers and at what intervals because it seems both Meadow and her wolf were compelled. I will also need to know why.”

Ethan drew a breath and made himself stay calm enough to keep listening.

“How can you decide all this with that?”

Camila explained carefully, but the energy in her was obvious now. She knew she was dealing with something extraordinary.

“She did not behave like a regular patient. Most people act like this when they are living in the form of hypnosis. Most people do, and they break through quickly, and for some, such as your wife, it stays with them. Only a strong hypnotist or an Alpha can induce this kind of state. She has been unable to escape it because of the command itself.”

Camila looked toward Meadow again.

“The command itself renders her mind blind, deaf and dumb. It is a miracle she is even functioning.”

Chapter 131

The words chilled Ethan more than anything else so far.

Camila continued.

“We need to find out why anyone would command a little girl at such a tender age and still go back to place the command on her when she got her wolf. We need to dig into the layers of her mind and find her true state. Right now, what you are getting is Meadow half awake. Her mind is strong, hence why she isn’t blind and deaf too.”

Ethan listened in stunned silence.

He had thought he was somewhat prepared for his own session when the time came, but after this, that thought vanished. He was

not prepared for any of it. Not for the fact that Meadow’s silence had been manufactured. Not for the idea that someone compelled

her as a child. Not for the thought of them returning again later, once she got her wolf, to reinforce the prison. Not for the miracle

that she was functioning at all despite it.

He just kept staring at her.

Meadow, meanwhile, was confused in an entirely different way.

For some strange reason, she could not hear what they were saying about her condition. The sounds around that part of the

conversation blurred strangely, almost vanished, as if her mind itself was still trying to protect the command or keep it hidden from

her. Yet she had heard herself talking when Camila was finishing. She knew that much. She remembered the strange scrape of voice

inside her mouth. It felt unreal and frightening and somehow familiar all at once.

She chose to shrug it off the best she could.

A side effect.

That had to be it. Some result of whatever Camila just did to her. Because at least one thing seemed certain in the middle of all this

confusion.

Her hearing had been restored.
