Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1329

“Oh, my sweet girl, don't keep me in suspense.”

Lacey shot Mara a playful glare.

“If you transfer your shares to my name, no one would dare look down on me anymore.”

Mara spoke cautiously, feigning a look of sheer timidity.

“Shares? What does this have to do with my shares?”

“Mom, look at it this way. If your shares are in my name, I'll officially be a shareholder. Who would dare slight me then? Don't worry, I don't actually want to keep them. Once I get through this rough patch, I'll transfer them right back to you. After that, you can just relax at home and enjoy your retirement.”

She scoffed inwardly. If it weren't for those shares, why would Mara bother sucking up to her? Even Fiona and Adrian only gave Lacey the time of day because of her equity.

“Alright, my daughter makes a fair point. I'll transfer five percent to you.”

“Mom, five percent is too little. They still won't take me seriously.”

But Lacey suddenly turned serious. “Five percent is plenty. Like your father said, if you want to establish yourself in the company, you need real capability. When Ethan first joined the business, he didn't have a single share to his name, yet he managed everything flawlessly, didn't he?”

How did this old crone suddenly get so sharp?

“O-Okay... I'll listen to you, Mom.”

Mara was forced to compromise, deciding to secure the five percent first. Having lived a past life, she knew better than to be overly greedy and end up with nothing like she had before.

It wasn't long before Damon returned home as well. “Let me have some of your shares.”

“You're an entertainer. What do you need corporate shares for?”

“Mom, to be honest, my entertainment agency's cash flow is incredibly tight. We can barely keep the lights on, and Dad won't approve any more funding. Just let me borrow your shares to secure a temporary loan. Once we weather this storm and the business turns around, I'll give them back.”

This put Lacey in a tough spot. Compared to Mara's bruised ego, Damon's impending corporate collapse seemed far more urgent.

“Mom, you have to transfer the five percent to me first.”
