Afterward, Mira headed to her room to pack her belongings. With things escalating to this point, staying at the Mercer estate was out of the question.
"Ethan, walk me out."
Just as she reached the door, Adrian called out, stopping her in her tracks. "Since you claim you aren't part of the Mercer family, you need to return the five million dollar Exit Fee you took from Geoffrey.
And as for your room and board over the past month or so, I won't overcharge you. Let's call it five hundred thousand dollars."
Without a second of hesitation, Mira replied, "Fine."
She immediately transferred The Severance Settlement of $5.5 million straight to Adrian's account.
On the way out, Mira forwarded the $500,000 Lucas had given her to Ethan. "Ethan, please make sure Lucas gets this back when you have the time."
It was a definitive statement: in this life, she was rejecting Lucas as her brother all over again.
Ethan didn't try to change her mind. "Understood."
As for Damon Mercer, the jury was still out. If he tried to harm her down the line, she would sever ties with him just as ruthlessly.
When they arrived at the rental apartment, her adoptive parents and Ryan Finn were absolutely stunned. "Minnie, isn't your exam tomorrow? Why are you moving back now?"
George Finn asked, bewildered.
"I cut ties with the Mercers."
Mira stated it as casually as if she were discussing what she had for lunch.
Strictly speaking, it wasn't even 'cutting ties' since there hadn't been any real relationship to begin with.
"How could you cut ties with your biological parents? It took them so much effort to finally find you."
Sarah Creed, ever the kindhearted soul, assumed Mira was just throwing a teenage tantrum.
