"Mira, I'll help you with your homework for a bit, and then we'll head out to buy you some clothes."
Julian offered.
Ethan raised an eyebrow. *Julian, are you really more educated than Mira?*
But he kept the snarky thought to himself.
"Okay."
Mira replied sweetly. She actually pulled out her textbooks and let Julian play tutor.
The screaming out in the hallway paused for a brief second before erupting again, louder than ever. Lacey yelled furiously, "Ethan, will you just stop causing problems for one single day?!"
"Me, causing problems? Mira has suffered for years. Are we supposed to just cater to Mara's every whim and shove Mira into some tiny storage closet?
Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if you're even her real mother."
Realizing she couldn't win an argument against Ethan, Lacey turned back to Mara. "Mara, sweetie, your sister has already moved into the room. Be the bigger person and let her have it. Let's clear out the walk-in closet and you can move in there.
That small room is more than enough for your clothes."
"No! I want my room! I want my room!"
Mara sobbed uncontrollably in the doorway, while inside, Mira was already unpacking her things and Ethan casually pointed out where to organize everything.
Noticing the empty display shelves, Julian went to his own room and brought back a few decorative pieces, along with his old racing trophies and medals, placing them carefully on the stands.
Mira didn't have many belongings, so the unpacking was finished quickly. Ethan glanced around. "This sofa is a bit worn. I'll have a premium leather set delivered for you."
He looked at her. "What color do you like?"
Mira didn't bother being falsely polite. "Beige, please. And while you're at it, have someone replace the door lock with a digital keypad."
She had to live in the Mercer house for a while, and with Mara constantly glaring at her like a predator, she wasn't going to take any chances. If that girl slipped into her room to poison her things or mess with her belongings while she was out, it would be incredibly annoying.
